Redmond Saturday Market Says Goodbye to Ray Anspach
A very special goodbye written by Volunteer Market Coordinator Martha Tyler
"If you were lucky enough to know Ray, you knew how passionate he was about volunteering. Ray was an extraordinary volunteer for Redmond Saturday Market for the past 7 years. He approached me in 2009 and asked if the Redmond Seniors could have a booth at market once a month. He was already volunteering for them. I told him I was in need of an electronic email list for the market and wondered if we could trade. A bargain was struck. He would collect email addresses for the market and we would provide the seniors a free booth once a month.
Over the next 6 years Ray came with the Redmond Seniors once a month, rain or shine, and collected over 1,000 email addresses for the market, which is almost our entire email list today! He went a step further and offered to enter them into our database. Ray was a mechanical engineer and so he also offered to create an electronic booth map for the market vendors as well as a map of the ATMs at Redmond Town center for our customers. Ray would visit the market almost every Saturday that he was in town, he loved tomatoes and always asked “where are the good ones today?” He was a kind, gentle, smart as they come guy who we will miss terribly. He loved his family and talked about them during his visits. Ray left us Dec 20, 2015. Good luck on the journey Ray, I’m sure you have already found another volunteer opportunity!
