June 2015 Newsletter

Read on for news and updates - lots going on over the summer !

A word from our Chair… Kath

Yet another very busy month for 4SSC! There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes by the committee to structure the club and the sessions for the future (more details to follow). I want to thank the committee for all their hard-work on this front, especially in my recent absence, gallivanting around the globe for work!
It has been wonderful to send 2 swimmers to the South East regional championships this year, great ambassadors for the club, and some fabulous PBs, see Kim's report below. We have our first team competition in June, best of luck to all the swimmers involved, I hope you all swim well, but importantly have fun representing the club!
We have our AGM on the 8th of June, and I really hope that many of you can attend, this is your opportunity as members to shape the club and its committee for the future. Please come and contribute, I promise not to allocate you a job :) (apart from those already volunteered, sorry that should read those who HAVE already volunteered:)).
Kath :)

Updates from our Head Coach … Kim

A quiet month for the Club as a whole. However it started with Fe Darwent competing at the SE Regional Championships, where despite having hardly trained for the three weeks prior to this meet because of illness, Fe swam well at the K2 in Crawley, gaining two Long Course PBs from five events as well as finishing 7th in the 200 Back Stroke Final.

Rebecca Hoadley’s turn was at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth in the distant events, where she gained PBs in both 400 and 800 Freestyle.

The last weekend of the SE Regional Championships saw Rebecca swim a very good 100 Freestyle with a large PB and gaining 8th place in the final. She also gained another big PB in the 50 Fly.

This gave 4 Shires a record breaking Championships.

Hopefully we’ll see more success at the Winter Regionals in November on the way to a large entry at next year’s County Championships.

News on squad re-structure will be sent out soon. Please make sure you read your e-mails

Upcoming galas

With the summer recess fast approaching we have two main events yet to come, the City of Oxford L3 gala over the weekend of July 11th / 12th where we have circa 22 swimmers participating. Our entry was in early and I'm awaiting feedback from Oxford SC and will update you when this comes through.

Four Shires will also be sending a team to participate in the Abingdon Vale Cup, a team gala to be held on June 20th. Kim's selected the squad and swimmers have been individually invited. This promises to be a fabulous new challenge for our swimmers, where they will be up against the best from Abingdon Vale, City of Oxford and other top local clubs.

There'll be no events during August, but we'll soon be taking entries for the Gloucester City SC L3 Sprints gala on September 20th with all races swum over 50 or 100 metres.

I have added a new calendar to the website so that you'll be able to look at the schedule of events going forward, click here to view it.

The 4SSC Summer Party will be held on Thursday 2nd July  from 7.30pm - 9.00pm at Chipping Norton Lido. Fun swim, space to run around, raffle and this year  we are also going to have a Barbecue. More details will be sent out soon.

Swimmer of the month

Trainer of the Month was a difficult decision, there was four very good candidates but I have selected Toby Fernandez.Toby works hard in all sessions and has a positive attitude towards swimming. Congratulations !

Summer Swimming

Summer term ends with the last session being on Friday 17th July but as in previous years, summer sessions will be available over the holidays. We would encourage all swimmers to sign up to keep fitness levels up ready for the next session. Watch out for e-mails confirming details.

Summer Master Classes

An exciting new development for the club !  This year we will be offering a number of swimming Master Classes at Sibford in the summer holidays. These will be different from regular training sessions  and numbers will be limited. We hope to have  highly experienced external coaches at some of the sessions and time will be spent focused on developing specific skills. Watch out for e-mails !

More bag packing success ! Thank you to all swimmers and parents that came to packed bags at the Co-op in Chippy last weekend we raised another £436 ! This means that we raised almost £1000 over the two bag packing days !!

Missing Kit

Please can we remind all swimmers that all kit including swimwear and poolside team strip should be named. We have several items of lost property which we are unable to return as it is unnamed.
We are currently looking for a missing boys 4SSC shirt. If you find you have an extra one please can you hand it in to a committee member so that we can return it.
Thank you.

Annual General Meeting
 Monday 8th June 2015

We invite all swimmers and parents to attend the above AGM of 4SSC. Whilst it would be lovely to see our swimmers there, could we stress that it is their parent registered with the ASA who will have voting rights and needs to attend if possible. Coaches are also invited to attend in an advisory but non voting capacity.

There will be reports given looking back over the past year and we will obviously look forward to the year ahead.

We will also be electing the club officers for the coming year.  Please would you make any nominations with proposer and seconder by Sunday 10th May 2015 by filling in the forms attached to this email and return to Judith at  Please ensure that anyone you are nominating for a post has agreed to stand and is fully aware of the requirements of that post.

Would any existing officers no longer willing to stand for the positions they currently occupy, please let Judith or Kath know ASAP.

Notice of any resolution proposed to be moved at the AGM must also be received in writing by 10th May 2015.

The AGM is being held during a swim session to allow as many members as possible to come.
