News

Remember The Club Champs tomorrow Saturday 3rd October - donations of cakes and raffle prizes would be gratefully received, as well of offers of help !

A word from … Rachel !

Another busy month; it hardly seems possible that only a month has passed since we resumed our full training program following the summer!

Well done to all who took  part in the CMK and Gloucester galas - great to see so many PBs and even some medals! With many more galas looming in the run up to Christmas, it would be good to see as many of our swimmers as possible competing.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our Club Champs on Saturday and to thank you all for your continued support of 4SSC.  A particular thanks must go to Ranit Katz, who is now our regular Coach for the land training session on Sunday evenings, as well as to Chris Blundell and Deb Lamb for their support with this session. Hazel Nichols is also assisting John with the Thursday night Moreton session. Thank you to them as well as to all our parents who assist in various ways including time-keeping and officiating at galas. The club really couldn't function without your support! If you haven't yet got involved and would like to, please do let us know.

Best wishes
Rachel

Updates from our Head Coach … Kim

A good start after the summer.
Two successful meets this month.
CMK Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th.
43 PBs                9 Golds, 3 Silvers & 8 Bronze Medals
Gloucester City SC Sprint Meet Sunday 20th.
54 PBs                5 Silvers, 11 Bronzes which includes the 3 Relays

A big thanks to all who helped out at these meets, as officials , TMs and Coaches.
The Senior & Junior Swimmers of the Month for September are:-
Another close month with several contenders
Senior                 Kirsty Pearson
Junior                  Maddie Ratcliff
          Really well done to both.

Our Club championships start soon.
I don’t want the top squads to be put off by 200s, I want you to swim at least 4 x 200 events!
Then the 400m events as well as Girls 800m & Boys 1500m
Pre-Comp and Academy Squads need to swim all 50s, plus enter the Junior Meet.
We have a busy few months coming up leading to the County Championships closing date of 14th December. Including development meets at Oxford, these are ideal as an introduction to competing outside of the Club for the new members as well as the others who have no times.
Please continue to look at forthcoming meets, if in doubt what to swim, ask myself or one of the coaches who will compare times so as to give you the best opportunity to reach Counties.

Galas Update

We're now in the midst of the busy gala period running up to the closing date for Counties entries on December 14th.

This Saturday is the start of the Autumn Championships events, which this year are spread over a number of dates: October 3rd and Carterton and 7th, 14th and 21st October at Kingham Hill School. All normal training is cancelled on those dates, with alternatives advertised.

We are also participating in the City of Oxford development gala programme, which offers monthly L4 galas, the times from which can be used for the Counties. Invitations to the final meet prior to Christmas will go out later this month. It would be great to see more of our younger [as it's open to 8+] and lower squad swimmers [Pre-Comp and Academy] participating as these galas provide invaluable experience.

The galas calendar is fully updated on the website, I'll also provide a link each month, click here.

Meet the Committee - Cerina Hawtin

Hi – I’m Cerina, mum to Leah.  I work full time as an Account Manager and am married to Kenny, who is the one that is normally sat poolside during Leah’s training sessions and who kindly volunteered me for the committee. Thank you Kenny!  Previous to this, I was Secretary on Leah’s primary school committee for the last 6 years helping to organise various fundraising events. We have an English Springer Spaniel called Archie so like to enjoy nice long walks at the weekend to wear him out!  If you have any idea’s for fundraising events, please do get in touch
