A word from our Deputy Chair - Rachel

It has been another busy month with the County Chamionships now well underway . It's been great to see a good number of our swimmers competing, both in individual events and in the team relays. More details including results will follow next month, but in the meantime, good luck to all swimmers who are racing next weekend!  A big 'thank you' to Kim for all his hard work, not only in supporting our swimmers poolside, but also for his hard work behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Our new 'Friends of 4SSC' group is now up and running and it's great to hear their exciting ideas for future social events and fundraising ventures-  details will be circulated shortly. If you have any suggestions or would like to offer your support, please do speak to either Zoe Wakefield or Louise Fernandez.  Sheena Blundell has kindly taken over the management of our 4SSC kit, so please contact her for all kit enquiries and requests.

We now have a good number of Team Managers trained  to  support our swimmers and coaches at galas. Thank you to Clive, Ali, Mel, Heidi, Phillipa, Sheena, Nigel. Jo, Lisa, Justin, Cerina, Louise F., Rachel H, Nicola B. who all joined me on a Team Managers Course run for us by the ASA, and to Jo for the delicious cakes!

And finally a special 'well done' to the first EVER Masters winner of our Senior Swimmer of the month trophy - Clive Jarvis!

Best wishes
Rachel

Updates from our Head Coach … Kim

The year started with the Ox & N Bucks Counties, both the individual distance events and  relays gave some outstanding swims, the relays giving us our best placings ever. However some silly DQs cost us but as long as lessons have been learnt these shouldn’t be repeated.

We once again helped with the running of the Chipping Norton partnership swimming relay gala. It was great to see so many 4 Shires swimming hats, which resulted in a very good standard and hopefully the 18 talent spotted swimmers will come for a trial and join us. A huge thanks to all coaches and parents who gave up their time to ensure a relatively smooth running of this annual event.

Hopefully all the pools we use are now working, a big thanks to all that had to chase around finding alternative pools, some with only a day’s notice.

The planned warm weather camp is starting to take place, please sponsor the lucky or should it be the unlucky 10 as they endeavour to swim the 4,000,000m to Tenerife during training sessions over the coming months.

The next two weekend see us at the Counties, best of luck to all those competing.

Kim

Galas Update

County's are still dominating the scene at the moment and we're still waiting, with baited breath, to find out the accepted entries for both Tiger Bay & City of Oxford Dvelopemnt Meet 4. Both of these events are over subscribed, and there will be scratches from the entries. DM4 is so heavily oversubscribed that they are planning to move some events on to future meets, details will be sent out as soon as we know.

Next on the horizon will be the Club Spring Championships, with a decison being made soon on the structure of the two weekends in April. Keep the 9th & 23 of April free though if you can.

The gala calendar is currently being reviewed and will be updated on the website in the very near future.

We also have a number of Masters galas coming up, details of these will be sent shortly.

Swimmers of the Month

Junior Swimmer of the month for January is Mary Francis.  It was great to give Mary her trophy before the start of our Bourton session, Mary has continued to train hard and listens to her coaches, she competed in her first relay at Counties and she produced a good PB. Hopefully individual place next year.

Senior Swimmer of the month (very senior!) for January is Clive Jarvis. Clive is  one of our few Masters Swimmers, he is always to be found leading the lane and sets a great example to the youngsters with the effort he puts in. His party piece is the delicate way he dives into the pool usually surprising the swimmers in the next two lanes!

REMINDER - URGENT

ASA fees are now overdue so if you haven't yet paid your annual fees, please do so urgently. If your fees are not paid, your ASA membership will NOT be renewed by the club.
Thank you.
