Wishing you all a Happy Easter !

Please note that there are no sessions at any of our venues over the Easter weekend (Friday 3rd April to Monday 6th April inclusive).

On Saturday 18th of April all normal swimming sessions at KHS are cancelled as it is the day of the Spring Sprint Meet. Instead the club is running a 'starts and turns' master class. This will run from 8-930am, and is open to anyone who would like to practise their starts and turns before the gala in the afternoon. Please contact Kath or Rachel to confirm if you would like to attend this session.

A word from our Chair… Kath

Yet another busy month for 4SSC! We successfully sent 2 swimmers to compete at a Level 1 gala in Sheffield this month. Fabulous Long Course (LC) PBs were achieved by both girls, who take a step closer to qualifying for the regional championships later this year. Well done Rebecca and Fe.

We also hosted our very first club social and fundraising event, a huge thank you to all who attended, helped out or donated raffle prizes, for more details and photos see below.

Looking forward to April, we have our own Spring Club, an opportunity for all swimmers (even those who have just joined the club!) to be timed whilst swimming, once you have times you can then enter external galas. I hope to see many of you there on the 18th!

I also want to wish our Masters squad lots of luck, as they are competing in their very first external gala this month, I hope this is the first of many.

Finally, I am afraid to say our entry into the Leighton Buzzard gala was unsuccessful, as the gala was already full, weeks before the closing date. Therefore, we will make our internal closing dates even sooner in the future, and in return I ask you to ensure that all entries are promptly handed in to avoid future disappointment.

Updates from our Head Coach … Kim

March started off with a successful Development Meet at the new Oxford pool.

39 swimmers entered, resulting in 109 PBs and 11 first time swims.

Some avoidable DQs were reported, mostly tiny mistakes that coaches always cover in training.

Please can I remind you to check with coaches before entering your children in the more technical events, to ensure they are able to legally complete.

Also before leaving for Meets ensure you have all your required kit, such as swimming costume, goggles, hat, footwear etc the pre event email lists the required kit and is sent to prevent this happening.

Last weekend Rebecca Hoadley and Felicity Darwent swam at a L1 Meet in Sheffield. A very high standard event which saw both the Ladies Breaststroke Olympic Gold medallist and the Men’s Commonwealth sprint champion competing. Both of our girls swam extremely well endeavouring to gain or increase regional entry times.

Come on the Four Dog !

On 21st March 4Shires held its first social fundraising event at Glyme Hall - Race Night ! For weeks an anxious committee had fretted over how may people would turn up, how much wine to buy, how to make chilli for 100 people, whether the projector would work and how best to work the betting. As well as all of this we actually needed to make a profit. Some commented that planning their wedding had been easier !
We needn't have worried, many hands make light work and with the help of some amazing volunteers and an enthusiastic audience the evening provided pleasant entertainment for all.

Chippy rang to the shouts of "Go trap 3 !" "Faster the black dog" and "Yeah I've won!" as the dogs sped around the track on the big screen. The chink of money could be heard at the end of each race as the lucky winners collected their gains from the hard working bookies. We were all ready for our chilli supper half way through (such excitement takes it out of you) and the food was splendid. As the night drew to a close Nigel the bookie had one more little trick up his sleeve - a dodgy game of blow football encouraged just a little more money out of everyone's pockets to round total profit up to £700 !

Thank you to everyone who gave up time to come along, spent money and contributed raffle prizes, we couldn't have done it with out you.
Huge thanks to all those that helped to organise and run the event on the night.
Now - what shall we do next ?????
