Coming straight after our Summer break we have had three Meets.
The CMK Level 3 had 16 swimmers producing 24 PBs, 24 Medals and with 8 first time racers.
At the Gloucester sprint Meet, we had 129 Individual Swims, 10 Relays, resulting in 105 PBs and 20 medals. Possibly the best swim Meet I have coached, even though some started to flag towards the late afternoon with serious heat and delays.
The Club Championships on Saturday had 131 PBs, 52 First time swims BUT also had 14 DQs, 5 of which were on the Back to Breast turn in the 100 IM despite me having briefed “DO NOT TUMBLE TURN DURING THE IM” to all the swimmers.
A very big thank you to all that helped out with these Meets, without whom we couldn’t enter. Team Managing and Officiating is always a tiring but rewarding job so we are always looking for parents and senior swimmers to help out at all Meets.
All Squads receive varying types of training throughout the year. In addition all development Squads receive specific (block) starts & turn coaching during Saturday morning (8.30-9.30) at KHS, turns on Monday evenings (6-7) at Sibford and Wednesday evenings (6-7) at KHS. The remainder, also receive varying practises throughout each session but (block) starts are usually only at KHS because they have the better facilities. Please feel free to speak to your session coaches if you have any questions. However please remember “You can lead a horse to water!”
Congratulations to Michael Pearson

Senior Swimmer for September
Suki Glockling Suki has developed into a very fine swimmer, always training hard and then having a broad smile even after a hard set or session.
William Huddleston William has continued to improve in both
stamina and speed and is now an accomplished swimmer, another one to watch in the future.
A word from our Chair …Rachel
This month began with our own Autumn Champs - a big 'thank you' to Chris for organising and to Kim, John, Heidi & Debbie and our team of officials for all their support in ensuring it ran smoothly as well as to all the parents who helped poolside and ran the stalls. Thank you also to Sheena for running the kit stall.
A particular thank you must go to Zoe and the Friends Group for their tireless and immensely successful fundraising activities this weekend - not only for organising the refreshments and tombola at Club Champs but also bag packing at Sainsbury’s. Our bingo evening last weekend was not only a great opportunity to enjoy some social time away from the pool, but also raised further funds. Thank you to all who supported these events.
This term ends on Friday 16 December with the new term commencing on Saturday 7 January 2017. Details of our Christmas training schedule will be sent out next month. Our Christmas party will be held on Thursday 15 December at Kingham - more details to follow nearer the time.
The Tenerife trip is fast approaching and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all ten of our swimmers as well as Kim and Clive an enjoyable and productive tour. Also good luck to all swimmers entering Meets over the coming weeks aiming to achieve County qualifying times - the cut off date is 12 December.
The training sessions at Kingham on Saturday 22 and 29 October will be combined (8.00-9.30am). Academy and Development swimmers have the option of arriving at 8.30am as usual or having an extra half an hour in the pool.
Raise money for the club whilst on-line shopping!
Did you know that you can raise funds for the club at easyfundraising.org.uk ? Search for 4 Shires swimming club in the 'cause' box, register and start your shopping whilst raising money for the club. Many companies will donate a percentage (or even a set amount) of what you spend on-line to your chosen cause. Retailers include Amazon, M&S, Boden, John Lewis, Argos and 2000 other well known names. Every three months they total up how much the supporters of each cause have raised and providing it is over £15, they send a cheque. If the amount raised is less than £15, the amount is then carried forward to the next cheque-run.
Monthly fun/skills sessions:
Following recent feedback and discussions, it has been decided to discontinue the monthly fun/skills sessions that were introduced last term on a trial basis. However, in response to feedback that some swimmers value and enjoy the opportunity to meet and socialise with other members, it has been agreed to hold a termly party - our regular Summer and Christmas parties will continue and an additional Easter party will be introduced from next year. Thank you to all those who took the time to provide feedback.
A warm welcome to all our new swimmers:
We hope you enjoy your swimming and make lots of new friends!
News from The Friends of 4SSC
October has been busy on the fundraising side. We started with our Autumn Club Champs where we received a wonderful selection of donations for the refreshment and tombola stalls. We raised £461 which included programme sales, refreshments & the tombola stall. Thank you all for your continued support.
We would like to thank those who turned out for bag packing at Sainsbury's in Chipping Norton. We boosted the Club's profile by handing out leaflets and by talking to members of the community and, in doing so, raised £155. We did see a limited number of swimmers turn up this time. I know it's not for everyone but it would be great if you could spare an hour to help us out on the next one.
We are next bag packing on Saturday 12 November at the Co-op Chipping Norton from 10am - 4pm. We also have the community area where we can again help to raise the Club's profile and sell a few home bakes / products - we were thinking some Christmas themed goodies too. If you can help out please email Zoe on email@example.com with availability / ideas.
What a turn out. We had a good family fun night out of the water. We were entertained and kept busy and enjoyed the food that was on offer - curry / cheese / beans / coleslaw with jacket potatoes followed by some home made puddings. The night raised a whopping £738.
Thank you again to all of you that helped which in turn makes all our events run the best they can. Not forgetting a big 'thank you' to everyone for spending your money supporting the Club with your generosity as always.
Any feedback from any of our fundraising events would be appreciated - what worked well / what could we change / what future events would you like to see?
