A word from our Chair… Kath

I can’t believe it’s May already! April was another very busy month for 4SSC, Gloucester Level 2 gala, our own Spring Meet, our first Masters gala in many years and CMK last weekend, I am feeling exhausted just thinking about it all, let alone attending all the galas like Kim has! Fabulous PBs at all galas and lots of firsts for many club members, I am especially proud of the masters swimmers, several of which competed at the spring meet and masters gala in the same weekend! The club has made tremendous progress over the last 12 months. Our growing master’s squad, the blossoming academy squad and the talented competitive squad which includes a small group of swimmers entering the regional championships for the first time, many congratulations to Fe, Rebecca and Oscar, I am immensely proud of you all. Thank you to all the coaching team, the dedicated committee and the continued enthusiasm of our swimmers and their parents, keep up the good work, just think where we could be this time next year!

Updates from our Head Coach … Kim

Another Great Month!
Started with a weekend at the Gloucester L2 Meet which gave us some amazing swims with lots of bling.
The 11 swimmers produced 19 PBs with 8 Golds, 3 Silvers and 3 Bronzes. This meet must be on the Calendar for next year.

Our Spring Sprint Championships which included the Luke Jeffery Memorial 50 m Freestyle Trophy took place on Saturday 18th at Carterton LC. Nearly 100 swimmers competed producing 223 PBs, we also had times recorded with the 75 swims in events they hadn’t raced before. A good afternoons racing, with a gymnastic display provided by Heidi, who fell in using a half back dive when she should have been judging, fortunately she wasn’t hurt but has two large bruises.

The next day saw our Masters at Gloucester, competing for the first time.
This gave us 12 PBs out of 15 swims and resulted in a Silver, 2 Bronzes with 6 Fourths, a Fifth and 4 sixth places.. A great start and hopefully more Meets to follow.

Both Rebecca Hoadley and Fe Darwent headed off to Millfield aiming for more Regional times, collecting 5 good PBs as well as 3 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Fe also qualified for the prestigious Skins final and has become the first 4 Shires swimmer to collect Prize Money!

A squad of 22 went to CMK Annual Spring Open Meet producing 70 PBs, with 3 Golds, 3 Silvers and 4 Bronze Medals, a busy but successful weekend.

Rebecca Hoadley, Fe Darwent and Oscar Raisbeck have qualified to enter the South East Regional Championships in 16 events, we now await confirmation of their acceptance and wish them all the very best of luck representing us there.

Make a note in your diaries for Saturday 20th June; we have been invited to compete as a Team in the Vale Cup at Abingdon. The team has been selected and we will be asking for availability soon. We need a lot of support for this event, so if selected please confirm ASAP.

Lastly
We are currently in the process of trying to join a Swimming League; this will involve 3 Meets a year and a commitment from those selected to attend.

Thank you to all who helped out at these very successful Meets.
Kim

Upcoming galas

Details of a L3 gala at Maxwell, over the weekend of June 27-28th, will be sent out shortly along with eligibility criteria.

There is a further L3 gala, the final one before the summer break, at Oxford hosted by the COSC which will be over the weekend of July 11-12th. Again details will follow shortly.

As we have had several disappointments so far this year with gala entries being closed early due to over subscription, I will be looking to turn round entries much quicker for all L3 / L4 galas which operate on a first come first served basis. I would ask for your cooperation in getting responses back to me, ideally via email, as soon as possible, details will be on the advisory emails.

An updated calendar of events will be available during the summer, kicking off in September with a trip to Gloucester. Please check out the website for more details.

Swimmer of the month

Tag Curwen is trainer of the Month, consistently he puts a lot of effort into every session.
His hard work in training has shown itself at swim meets where his results speak for themselves.Always to be seen smiling no matter how hard or what sessions are thrown at him.

Congratulations Tag !

Polite Reminder

Please could we remind you of the importance of only attending sessions you are signed up to attend, due to pool occupancy restrictions and health and safety considerations.
We understand that from time to time you may have to miss a training session but unfortunately our numbers do not allow us to swop sessions on an ad hoc basis.

 4SSC Spring Sprint Meet 2015

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Spring Sprint Meet last month. Based upon comments following the Club Championships we changed the format and tried something new with a team event. Feedback from our on-line survey (thanks to those that took part) suggests that overall swimmers and parents enjoyed the event. The comments made as to how we could improve for next time will be taken on board to make it even better next year !

For those that missed the result of the team event it was won by
The Sharks who were rewarded with a large tub of chocolate to share. Well done to Rebecca's team !

Below are a few photos from the day - please see the website for more.

Finally we would like to say a huge thank you to all that helped to make the afternoon a success, we really appreciate your hard work and support .

Louise Berry - Welfare Officer

Hi,
I will officially be the new Welfare Officer from July having spent the last few months working on a handover with Phil Spencer . I also compile the monthly Newsletter.
My son Albert Warner enjoys swimming with the club  4 times a week so you will often see me watching at sessions.
My working background includes 25 years at a large market research company before radically changing direction to work for a housing association. When I am not at work or ferrying Albert around I like to relax by walking the dog .......
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any Welfare concerns, or if you have any suggestions for the newsletter.
