Mindfulness and the Movies
Wednesday, June 26th 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Flagstaff Insight Meditation Community
2708 North Fourth Street, Suite B-3
Flagstaff, AZ 86004

Come join us for an exploration of becoming mindful of the messages movies convey and how we can become free from stereotypes and narratives that confine us. Greg McAllister will be facilitating this exploration and unpacking the themes and narratives in the movie Avatar (2009). We will then have the opportunity to inquire into how this is tied to our spiritual practice of freeing the heart and mind.

One of the aims of Buddhist practice is to undermine the narrow, confining conceptual constructs we place on ourselves and others. This allows us to create a space of inclusivity and compassion, which is a foundation of this path and the vision of Flagstaff Insight Meditation Community (FIMC). Diversity events such as this will provide the basis for explorations and discoveries that can lead to a greater awareness around pressing issues of difference in our society, culture, and world. Welcome one and all!

BEFORE THIS EVENT: Please watch the movie Avatar (2009) before coming to the event.
There is NO FEE for this event. The teachings of the Buddha have been sustained by the 2,500 year old tradition of dana, a Pali word meaning "generosity.” The facilitator receives no compensation for his services. Particpants are invited to support the facilitator and FIMC by offering donations. In the act of giving, we develop our ability to let go, cultivate a spirit of caring, and honor our inter-connectedness.
