IHE-Europe NEWS Pulse
Dear Members and Friends,
IHE-Europe is delighted to announce that IHE-Finland has formally become an active participant of the IHE-Europe family. From earlier discussions 10 years ago, IHE-Finland has gradually found its feet and has recently become very active. Its mission to promote integration patters based on IHE Profiles is already being fulfilled with many XDS installations across the country and the National Imaging Architecture, arguably one of Finland's most important national interoperability projects, using IHE Profiles and cross-community data access. This maximises the useful life of many constituent projects that are crucial as the national IHE-based solution begins deployment in autumn 2017.
Although IHE-Finland is one of the youngest country adopters of IHE Profiles, it is clear that IHE-Finland means business. It is currently engaged in workshops, specialist training and “IHE breakfast sessions” spreading the IHE messages to the whole country of Finland and deep into Finland’s healthcare organisations.
With 38 active companies and organisations on-board and with close collaboration between government bodies, hospital districts and vendors – both local and international – the organisation is run by the Board of HL7 Finland Ry. The Board handles current administrative issues and membership matters on behalf of IHE-Finland.
Konstantin Hyppönen, Juha Rannanheimo and Sanna Virkkunen are the current Co-chairs of IHE-Finland. Konstantin, who spoke at the 2016 IHE Symposium in Bochum, said, “Since our IHE Special Interest Group was established in 2007, progress has been made,  but in the last couple of years, with the Finland National Project Initiative, interest has expanded exponentially. It was inevitable that IHE-Finland would become more visible than just just a special Interest group of HL7 Finland, and the accession to IHE-Europe was the logical step”.

Jürgen Brandstätter, IHE-Europe Vendor Co-chair added, “We look forward to IHE-Finland playing a full and active part at what is clearly a very important time for them, as their National Imaging Architecture is being deployed."
