Dear Friends,
The usage of IHE profiles facilitates compliance with security and data protection regulations. This was once again proved in Luxembourg, where the national ehealth agency Agence eSanté officially announced the pilot launch of the electronic health record (Dossier de Soins Partagé DSP) to a limited number of patients, before its national deployment which is planned for 2016.
This official “go” follows an extensive conformance audit of the EHR’s security and data protection related elements conducted by the national Data Protection Authority (CNPD). Agence eSanté indicated that two criteria undoubtedly contributed to this positive outcome:
  • the fact that the Luxembourg eHealth platform complies with several IHE Integration Profiles (IHE XDS.b, XUA, PDQ, CT, NAV, PAM, PIX), which define a security framework for protecting the confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of patient care data;
  • the fact that Agence eSanté, who participated in the epSOS project (a large scale European pilot, 2008/2014, that enabled the secure and reliable exchange of Patient Summary and ePrescription), successfully passed testing at the “epSOS Projectathon” which took place during the 2014 IHE-Europe Connectathon in Vienna.
In addition, the open source GECAMed medical office management software sponsored by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Luxembourg national eHealth platform was successfully tested, at the 2015 IHE-Europe Connectathon for the IHE XDS.b, XUA, PDQ, CT, and NAV profiles.
