News, contests, and my move to Middle-earth
Happy 2016! I hope your new year looks promising, and that you got through that Mercury Retrograde period unscathed. I typically pay attention to astrology only for fun, but my gosh, between home closing issues, failing appliances, job difficulties, a three-week long wait for high-speed Internet, and hardest of all, news that ECHO 8 didn't make it into the RWA RITA contest this year due to some snafu between my publisher and the organization, I'm beginning to be a believer!
The biggest news for this year so far is I moved outside the greater Seattle area. Badgered by my family until I no longer had the energy to argue, the city mouse is now a country mouse. In the positive column, that photo at the top? I took that on my new daily walk. That orange stuff isn't anything so exciting as hot lava, just a bit of light peeping through at sunset on an otherwise cloudy, snowy day. Apparently soon I'm going to be gathering goats and milking chickens, or something to that effect. Stay tuned!
But we're mostly here to talk about book news, right? Here are all the things:
And with that I believe you're all caught up. I write these things for you guys, so if you have specific questions, or have other stuff you'd like me to talk about, shoot me an email! This year I'm planning to invite more guest authors, as well.
- You newsletter subscribers are the ONLY ones who've read the first couple chapters of the new paranormal/sci-fi romance I've been working on, LOST THINGS, FOUND THINGS. I entered that book in the NOLA Stars Suzannah competition (which I guess technically means you're no longer the only ones who've read it), and it finaled! Yay! Cool thing about the Suzannah is there are no categories. You go head to head with every subgenre. The winner will be announced next month.
- The SFR Galaxy Awards were announced last week, and ECHO 8 won one for Best Physics Lesson. How geektastic is that? Judge Riley said, "I found Echo 8 to be complex, emotionally intense, scientifically speculative and one of the most intriguing books I read in 2015." Read the full write-up here.
- BEFORE SHE WAKES is finished! Deadline for turning the book in to my Penguin Random House editor was Feb. 1. Made it with two days to spare! Don't forget to pre-order ($2.99 e-book). It's the best way to let my publisher know you like what I do and want to see more!
