The Chapter Meeting Menu | February 2017

Our CA, Merced-1 chapter recently celebrated its 5th anniversary with DFW. Thank you to Co-Leaders Jane Guerra and Karen Arnold and all your chapter members.

Our Featured Grantee: Etta Projects in Bolivia

DFW’s grant of $39,825 will be used to train villagers in rural Bolivia -- 95 percent of whom will be women -- to become health promoters. This project will enhance health and education, offer leadership roles for women, alter stereotypes for rural Bolivian women and girls, and help reduce domestic violence.
Our Conversation with Etta Projects is available here.

Sustained Funding Grantee: Starfish in Guatemala

Through education and mentorship, Starfish (formerly called Starfish One by One) empowers indigenous, adolescent Guatemalan girls to become leaders in their communities. DFW’s sustained grant of $20,000 per year from 2016 to 2018 supports the first all-girl middle school in Guatemala.

Icebreakers Icebreakers
A while back, we asked you to send your best icebreakers so we could share them with all our chapters. Please keep these ideas coming!  This month’s icebreaker is from Susan Hendricks, Co-Leader of the SC, Columbia-2 chapter. Susan says her chapter had a very lively and interesting conversation when they posed this question: Do you think we have a caste system in the U.S.?
Discussion Questions for Discussion
  1. Why is it important for Bolivia’s indigenous populations to have a voice in medical treatment?
  2. How might this program change rural Bolivian society?
  3. How could the role of health promoters influence attitudes about violence against women?

Join Our “8,000 Ambassadors Campaign”
and Help Us Grow!

We know that DFW members, like you, are passionate and committed to helping women and girls, and WE ALL LOVE DFW! This makes you and your chapter members the perfect ambassadors to spread the word about DFW and help us expand the number of DFW chapters.

Our “8,000 Ambassadors Campaign” will kick off on March 8th — International Women’s Day. Here is what we are asking of you:
  • Hold your chapter meeting on March 8th and be part of the biggest DFW chapter meeting ever!
  • Tune in to a live Google Hangout on the evening of March 8th for some exciting news!
  • Brainstorm and plan, with your chapter members, how you can spread the word about DFW.  We will be mailing an “8,000 Ambassadors Campaign” toolbox to each chapter in February with printed materials (rack cards, brochures) and suggestions for spreading the word. We will also send you a press release template that you can share with your local news media, who will be looking for local stories to cover for International Women’s Day.
Even if you can’t hold your meeting on International Women’s Day, please use your March meeting to discuss DFW’s growth plan, watch the recording of the Google Hangout, and brainstorm ideas!

Watch your email and The Dish for more communications over the coming months, and contact if you have any questions.
