Chapter Meeting Menu | December 2021

As we kick off the season of giving, sharing, and gratitude, we want to thank you for leading your chapter over the past year. We know that this has been another challenging year as a result of the ongoing pandemic. Some chapters have been meeting on Zoom since the pandemic began; others are alternating between online and in-person meetings; and still others are doing hybrid gatherings! We value you and appreciate all your efforts to keep your chapter active and our community strong.

We extend our very best wishes to you and your family for a safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving!

Our Thanks to a Special Rise Volunteer

Debbie BrittWe love recognizing our chapters on their anniversaries, and we hope you enjoy receiving your special anniversary cards. We could not do this without our wonderful Rise volunteer. Debbie Britt, Co-Leader of our PA, Abington-1 chapter, has been writing and sending out these cards to all of our chapters (more than 400 per year) for more than six years. Debbie is also a former Regional Leader and a devoted supporter of Rise’s mission. Thank you so much, Debbie, for the gift of your time and talents over the years!

Giving Tuesday -- a global day of giving -- is November 30. We are excited to share that a long-time and dedicated Rise member will match every donation to our annual appeal between now and Giving Tuesday on Nov 30th, up to $75,000! This means a potential of $150,000 in support of our mission to achieve global gender equality.

Can You Take 5 Minutes to Spread the Word? 5 minute timer

This is a great time to invest in woman and girls and double your impact! Please help us spread the word to members AND non-members alike. (Yes, anyone can donate. Tell your friends and family about your passion for gender equality, and encourage them to give too!)
  • Copy, paste, and personalize this message and then email it to all your chapter members.
  • Share this Facebook fundraiser with all of your Facebook friends. It's so easy to do! When you click on the link, there is a section on the right hand side where you can invite all your Facebook friends.
If you have not yet made your year-end gift, please give during this match period! Remember, our annual appeal helps to fund all of our grants, our member learning and community building programs, and our administrative expenses for this year.

December Featured Project:

Sexual Reproductive Health Initiative in Rwanda

DONATE
Rwanda is still recovering from the long-term effects of the 1994 genocide, which led to massive destabilization of the social and justice systems within the country. Social norms and negative stereotypes continue to limit the advancement of women and girls, especially in rural communities. Among the challenges that are shattering the dreams of adolescent girls is the rise of teen pregnancy and early marriage. This month, we are partnering with Komera to provide education on sexual reproductive health, access to family planning and resources, and advocacy work to change negative stereotypes that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential.

Discussion Questions for Discussion
  1. How do you think emphasizing confidence and agency relate to sexual reproductive health education?
  2. Why do you think focusing on younger adolescent girls is important in this project?
  3. As scholars become mentors, what impact do you think that has on girls in the community?

Chapter Leader Info & Reminders
1. 2022 First Quarter Speaker List -- Grantee representatives may be available to attend your chapter meeting. The 2022 first quarter speaker list is now available here

2. Update Your Member Roster – It is very important for Together Women Rise to have up-to-date email addresses for all of our members so that they can receive donation receipts, year-end giving statements, our monthly e-newsletter, and other important Rise news and information. Please check your member roster, which is sent to you around the 10 or 11th day of each month with your monthly chapter report. (If you are not receiving your monthly chapter report, please check your junk or spam folder, and then let us know if you still do not have it.) If there are any missing or incorrect email addresses, please send these updates as soon as possible to donations@togetherwomenrise.org.

Many chapter leaders inquire about how to “clean up” their chapter rosters. Perhaps you have individuals listed who have not been attending or active in your chapter for some time. While we cannot remove them from your roster (they must remain in our database), we can mark them as "Inactive" which will put them at the bottom of your roster. Once again, if you have updates like this, please email donations@togetherwomenrise.org.

3. Please Send in All Donations by Dec 31st – Please note that all donations must be received by Together Women Rise or postmarked by Dec 31 in order for donors to receive 2021 tax credit. This includes checks for monthly chapter donations, gifts to the annual appeal, as well as proceeds from any chapter fundraisers held this year. Even if a member’s check is dated in 2021, all donations postmarked after Dec. 31 will receive 2022 tax credit.
