Return to Rowing

A slow and steady start
We have started our return to rowing! A few groups of Junior and Senior rowers have been out and we are slowly streamlining our sign-up procedures, cleaning procedures, and ensuring we have all the necessary equipment.

In order to better create a schedule we are asking rowers in all groups to fill in a questionnaire about what days and times are best for them. Please complete this as soon as possible.

Some other notes:
  • Rowing will be by sign-up only using Google Sheets - separate sheets will be sent out for Juniors/Seniors and Masters.
  • Rowers must fulfill the requirements listed below
  • The rest of this week is limited to Juniors/Seniors
  • No rowing on Monday, June 15 - this will be a training day for our summer staff
  • First Master's session will be on Wednesday, June 17
  • Number of sessions in a week per person may be capped so that everyone has an opportunity to get back out on the water

Nanaimo Rowing Club has developed a COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan with guidance from Rowing BC, Rowing Canada, Worksafe BC and the province of BC's Sport Sector Reopening guidelines.

This COVID-19 Plan has been developed to reduce the risk of exposure and transmission of COVID-19. The number one concern is the safety of our staff and participants.

The plan is an evolving document and as it is updated a new version number will be applied and the record of changes will be updated.

In order to resume rowing members are required to do the following:

  • Read over the Nanaimo Rowing Club COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan

  • All participants must be registered with Rowing Canada and must complete the Rowing Canada waiver within the registration system.

  • In addition, they must bring in their completed NRC Participant Agreement and updated emergency contact information.

  • Complete a daily COVID-19 Health Assessment. It is preferred that rowers complete the assessment online BC COVID-19 Self Assessment Test. However, if you don't have online access it will be possible to do a verbal test at the site.

Some Helpful Hints
  • Arrive, confirm daily COVID-19 health check, row and go!
  • Maintain 2m physical distancing at all times
  • We will be wet launching - dress accordingly
  • Wear socks
  • It's in the documents but, a reminder that rowers will not have access to the boathouse so no place for bags in the boathouse. Bring car keys in a ziploc bag and they will be securely stored by staff.
  • Bring water bottles and snacks in a ziploc bag
  • Equipment will be in a sandy, dirty environment - please try and rinse sand off, especially blades
