Local racer speaking out against child sexual abuse at Honda Indy Grand Prix in Alabama
Winnipeg, Manitoba – Local racing driver, Damon Surzyshyn, will be making his pro debut at Barber Motorsport Park in Alabama on April 25th, 2014. He’ll be contesting the opening round of the Pirelli World Challenge in a Honda B-Spec race car.
“Being part of the Pirelli World Challenge is a dream come true. Sports car racing is in a golden age right now and to be part of a top-notch professional series, racing at a venue like Barber Motorsport Park AND being part of the IndyCar weekend; its really exciting!” - Damon Surzyshyn
Damon is donating sponsorship of his Pirelli World Challenge car to Winnipeg based charity, Beyond Borders ECPAT Canada, which will include recognition of the nonprofit on his car and uniform. The Pirelli World Challenge is broadcast on NBC Sports Net in the USA and streaming online at www.world-challenge.com which makes it a great opportunity to generate maximum exposure for Beyond Borders ECPAT Canada.
“I got to know Beyond Borders last fall when my company, Nomad Production, produced some videos for them. I was so blown away by the energy, enthusiasm and passion that everyone involved with the organization had in combatting such a difficult social problem” - Damon Surzyshyn
Beyond Borders ECPAT Canada is a national, bilingual advocacy organization advancing the rights of children everywhere to be free from sexual abuse and exploitation. It is the Canadian representative of ECPAT International, a global network of more than 82 groups in 75 countries. It is also the Canadian representative for the Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism.
“The Beyond Borders image of the child with a bar code stamped on his back conveys a powerful message that our kids are not commodities. We’re inspired by Damon’s boldness for displaying this image on his race car as not a lot of men are involved in this cause. I hope other men take this as a challenge to do something similar to end the silence on this issue. ” - Rosalind Prober
Damon has been racing open wheel for the last few years and making the switch to sedans is a natural progression.
“I have a long term plan. The first race is going to be a steep learning curve; it’s a new car, a new team, a new track and a new series. There’s a lot of work to do to get up to speed in a couple of practice sessions but I’m looking forward to the challenge.” - Damon Surzyshyn
