World Hunger Week has come and gone,
but the issues of food insecurity affect our community everyday.

This week has made us reflect on hunger on an international, national, and local scale.
It reminds us that one out of every two children in our community are eligible for food assistance.
It reminds us that one in every five seniors can't afford enough food to live a healthy, active, lifestyle.
It reminds us of how unfair and unjust our food system is, when soda and junk food is more accessible than fresh fruits and veggies.
It reminds us of the effects that poor nutrition has on our mental and physical health.
It inspires us to fight for change.

Calling all bakers:

This time of year we're offered more apples and pumpkins than we know what to do with. They are plentiful and delicious, but many folks just don't have the time to process them into anything other than their raw form.
Help us make apple and pumpkin cakes, pies, breads, sauces, butters... you name it, we'll take it to local folks in need!
If you're interested, respond to this email and we'll find a time for you to stop by SCCAP (153 N. Stratton St. Gettysburg) to pick up apples or pumpkins (or both!). You can process them on your own time, bring us back whatever treat you'd like, and we'll help get your culinary craft into the hands of neighbors in need.
Please help us spread the word with your friends and relatives!

As always, any feedback for us to make this info more helpful, to make our project more effective, or our work more efficient is much appreciated.

Any thoughts and suggestions are always welcome.

All the best.

The Glean Team.
