Europe proposes ban on zinc oxide in pig feeds
Earlier this month, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended to the EU Commission that the use of high levels (pharmacological) of zinc oxide (ZnO) in food-producing species should be banned; proposing that approvals of existing veterinary therapeutic products containing this ingredient be withdrawn and all future product applications be refused.
This is of particular importance to Anatara Lifesciences as zinc oxide is effective in reducing post-weaning diarrhoea when used at these levels and is often a first choice replacement for in-feed antibiotics in many countries.

Antibiotic Resistance will be one of the biggest & most important stories of 2017
New Scientist magazine reported this month that antibiotic resistance will hit a terrible tipping point in 2017. The article goes on to explain that while the livestock industry has long played down any risk to human health caused by using antibiotics in farming, the danger is now widely accepted.
This time-lapse video shows importance of good antibiotic stewardship.
