 GREAT OCEAN ROAD A BIG WINNER
IN RECENT TOURISM FUNDING!

1.6 million dollars in funding has been announced through the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure Program (TDDI). The TDDI program is aimed to drive demand, improve quality and increase tourism expenditure .
  • The Platypi Chocolate project  will receive $300,000 to construct a new chocolate café in Forrest. The facility will include a licensed café, retail outlet and a chocolate production area.
  • The Wildlife Wonders project will receive $557,962 to undertake planning, design and the development of a business case for a new Australian wildlife ecotourism experience on a spectacular 20 ha property west of Apollo Bay.
  • The Wye Beach Hotel project will receive $450,000 to expand the existing hotel and enable weddings, conferences and other events.
These projects will add depth and variety of tourism offerings for visitors in our region. Congratulations to all grant recipients,  we look forward to working with you closely in the future.

THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD MEMORIAL ARCH PRECINCT!
Here is your opportunity to be involved!
The Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) are currently preparing a master plan for the Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch Precinct. They are now commencing a broader consultation  process and have released the following Memorial Arch Options Paper.

To have your thoughts considered,  complete the linked survey click here or if you prefer you can email info@gorcc.com.au submissions welcome until 25 August 2017. This will help inform the draft master plan.

  • The Taste the Great Ocean Road promotion will finish at the end of the month.
  • 10 participating businesses have received some great exposure through the social media campaign - have you seen it?

Public Relations
  • The AGE journalist Richard Cornish  published his second article this month  6 reasons to visit Apollo Bay
  • GOR Event Blogger Matt Charlesworth attended the Warrnambool Fun4kids Festival and Winter Weekends in Port Fairy this month.  Publishing live stories throughout the events which are averaging 3,500 views per post.  Catch up on his latest blogs here 
  • We are also working on a number of exciting Public Relations opportunities including: A new Television program for channel 7 called Australia's best Drives, A two part episode on channel Ten's Offroad Adventure Show and a feature in the December issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine.

VTIC CONFERENCE
VTIC presented the annual Victorian Tourism Conference at Flemington Racecourse on July 24th and 25th. This annual event not only provides key updates and presentations to the industry but also presents  an excellent opportunity to network with and learn from others in the industry.

We were excited to learn of the  new Visitor Behaviour Research project being undertaken by the University of Tasmania -

Tourism Tracer is the largest project of its type in the world, both spatially and temporally. It is one of the most innovative and extensive research projects ever conducted into tourist travel.

The Tourist Tracking Project began its life in 2016. Using smartphones and an app, they have gathered unprecedented insights into where groups of visitors go, how they move around, and what influences their decisions.

Tourism Tracer allows you to see detailed information on how long someone stands at a lookout, walks through a national park or browses an art gallery. There is significant value and impact to be had for government, industry and community as a result of this unique initiative.

Anglesea, Lorne, Apollo Bay, Otways, 12 Apostles Coast and Hinterland, Winchelsea & Aireys Inlet

Anglesea
The Anglesea brand toolkits have now been launched. You can  purchase your copy from our online store.  We have also finalised the Anglesea brand film see below.
Anglesea is a story of outdoor adventure. Boogie boards on the whitewash and feet off the pedals. It's about taking on the day and making the most of every minute.

Winchelsea
We are currently working with Growing Winchelesea to build more digital content. Which includes planning for a Winchelsea photo shoot. 

Lorne
We are excited to be working with  Lorne Business and Tourism Association and  Surf Coast Shire on a new Love Lorne destination website.  We also hosted a "Dealing with Life’s Lemons" Workshops in Lorne on the 19th July using  Regional Development Victoria recovery funding. The workshop informed  operators on planning for resilience in challenging times.

Apollo Bay
The Apollo Bay destination action plan is being reviewed in the coming weeks. Revising current strategies for the destination and the local association will be part of the process. If you would like to be involved please contact jo@gort.com.au

Otways
Otways operators participated in a brand story workshop this month. The workshop was held in partnership with Regional Development Victoria, Colac Otway Shire and the Otways Tourism Advisory Committee. All Otway businesses were able to access the workshop. 

Our spectacular event Shakespeare in the Otways Spring Trilogy, launched this month, thanks to Regional Development Victoria  recovery fund, Otway Country to Coast and the participating venues including many local sponsors. Wye River, Kennet River and Wongarra
The destination planning process is now complete, and work has begun on developing their brand. We look forward to continuing the journey with this  part of the region who have seen many challenges over the past two years. 

12 Apostles Coast & Hinterland
We have now officially launched the new www.visit12apostles.com.au website. Thank you to Mark Cuthell for your assistance throughout this process.  Become acquainted with the new look website, we are sure you will love it!  

The new 12 Apostles Coast & Hinterland Destination Maps are currently in production and will be available very soon.

Port Fairy
The Port Fairy Tourism Association (PFTA) along with selected operators will be presenting at the Visit Victoria Product Briefing on Tuesday 15th August. We look forward to sharing with you photos from the day.

We are also working in partnership with the Moyne Shire council and the PFTA 
to deliver some great workshops for the remainder of the year  so stay tuned for further details.

Anglesea -  8 Kilometer Foot Race - 6 August, 2017
On Sunday, 6 August 2017 the Geelong Cross Country Club will conduct a handicap race for runners 16 years and older starting near the Anglesea Surf Club.
