Theodore J. Wardlaw, President of Austin Theological Seminary, writes of Advent: In this particular Advent season—so fraught with anxiety, sadness, and reminders everywhere of how our world and our lives have been turned upside down by a global pandemic and its accompanying distress—we may not feel like celebrating the season’s customary traditions. Nonetheless, it is worth remembering that our ancient ancestors in the faith awaited a Savior in the midst of similar difficulties. There were unjust leaders, unfair laws and practices, harrowing diseases, great poverty made more crushing against the backdrop of great displays of wealth and power; and, in that upside-down world, people of faith were yet encouraged to remain steadfast in their expectations for the arrival of the Son of God. And, over and over again, angels came and said, “Do not be afraid.”   November Prayer Requests: Two and continuing prayers.  Our pastor, staff and members stand ready to pray for your joys and concerns. If you would like pastoral prayer, please call the church office and leave a message. To be added to our member-led prayer chain, contact the church office at 915-533-7551.
This year we will hold a brief (30 minute) Christmas Eve candlelight service outside the sanctuary near the church bell tower.  We'll sing a few Christmas carols, read the Christmas story from the gospel of Luke, and conclude with the traditional lighting of candles and singing "Silent Night."   We hope you'll join us Thursday, December 24th at 5:30pm.
Wishing You A
