Message from Norma Jean

When I attended the President’s Council in January, I was given a booklet on the history of conservation in the Garden Club of America 1913-2013.  What surprised me was how active our national organization has been since its inception in the field of conservation.  I found that not only was Marily Magid the Nation Chairman of conservation from 1998-2000 but her name was mentioned in other contexts because of her continuous involvement in issues related to conservation.  Ladeen Miller was our zone representative for conservation at one time.  She has also been active in other national organizations which promote the preservation of seeds and wild flowers.  Tisha Ford, our current conservation chairman, has this copy of our history which is available to any of you who wish to read it.  Having this information made me so proud to be a member of our club and its affiliation with a national group whose longstanding concern has been the preservation of our environment

Board Meeting

Board Meeting is March 30, 9am at Jocelyne Meeker’s.

Communication Committee

Michael Pollan, the author of Omnivore’s Dilemma and many other books regarding the environmental impacts and the anthropology of our food choices, will be in Santa Barbara… April 30 at the Granada Theater.  Group rates are not available, but there are still plenty of seats.

It is purely coincidental that we are discussing Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma at the same time that the county of Santa Barbara is mobilizing with regard to our food choices. Attached is an opportunity to hear about the Food Action Plan for Santa Barbara County.
