From California to the Kingdom of eSwatini, our work took us to many places in July. Check out this month's newsletter for some of the highlights.
Esri UC recap
The Esri User Conference is the biggest GIS event of the year. The San Diego Convention Center was once again filled with record breaking numbers of geo enthusiasts and the Blue Raster team had an amazing time. We were able to showcase our latest work, meet new friends and learn from others in the GIS community. Read about our Esri UC experience here, which included a photo opp with Jane Goodall!
Jane Goodall Story Map
We worked with master storyteller Allen Carroll from the Esri Story Maps team and Lilian Pintea, VP of Conservation Science at the Jane Goodall Institute, to create "ENGAGE-LISTEN-UNDERSTAND-ACT". Built with the new ArcGIS StoryMap template, this new Jane Goodall Story Map tells the story behind the holistic and community-focused ‘Tacare’ approach toward conservation.
Blue Raster was a proud sponsor of the 22nd Annual SCGIS Conference. Project Manager Eric Ashcroft attended the conference and presented on some of our GIS conservation work. This year's conference reflected on the important contributions over SCGIS’s 22-year history and highlighted critically important roles for conservation GIS in the years ahead.
The TRACE Initiative is a new project from Columbia University which will contribute to the global fight to control the HIV epidemic. Blue Raster has been tasked with developing dashboards & map applications to visualize, analyze and track the recent infections and identify where action may be directed. Shannon Lindsay, our new Power BI Developer, is in the Kingdom of eSwatini this week supporting this important project.
Philadelphia Inquirer Training
In collaboration with National Geographic and The Lenfest Institute of Journalism, we are working on an interactive mapping application for a reporting project about the Delaware River Watershed. Last week, Blue Raster co-founder Michael Lippmann visited The Philadelphia Inquirer office to demonstrate the power of Story Maps for journalism. Stay tuned for more on this project.

Blue Raster Team Picnic
Our team came together for a staff picnic and barbecue with family and friends. We had a great night at Quincy Park near our office in Arlington, grilling and sharing a team potluck with delicious snacks and competing in an exciting beach volleyball tournament! It was a great way to bring the Blue Raster team together and celebrate the summer.
