Enjoy an inspiring and informative afternoon with sustainable neighbours from across Lake Macquarie City.
  • Take a tour of the award winning Fire Retardant Native Garden at Toronto Fire Station.
  • Find out how the Redhead Sustainable Neighbourhood helped create a series of wonderful ANZAC murals at Redhead Public School
  • Be inspired by other Sustainable Neighbourhood projects – created by neighbours, for neighbours
All welcome but places are limited.

Plastic bag survey results

We received 25 responses to our survey, and respondents were generally supportive (96%) of a campaign to ban plastic bags.  Download the detailed survey results.

The responses indicated some confusion about different types of plastic bags and which ones would be banned.  These pages from the Tasmanian Government help clarify these key points:

We are planning our advocacy strategy and gathering resources.  We would love your help.  Here are some key steps you can take.

Reminder:  Applications for Council's current round of Environmental Sustainability Grants are due on 7 September.
If your group is applying, please let us know by next week so that the Alliance Board has time to review your application.

Old waste, new art

Help increase waste awareness and show your creativity.

Create something incredible out of 'stuff' that would otherwise be thrown away. 

The West Wallsend District Sustainable Neighbourhood Group is inviting school students and community members from across Lake Macquarie City to create an artwork from waste materials.

Be in the running to win cash prizes!  Entries will be exhibited at a community event on 10 October 2015.

Health and safety training
Essential training for Sustainable Neighbourhood volunteers

Do you understand your responsibilities when organising Sustainable Neighbourhood activities?

Learn how to manage risks and protect the health and safety of volunteers and participants in your activities
