Help us celebrate our community of Sustainable Neighbourhoods!
We are planning a special day for Sustainable Neighbourhood members to say a huge 'thank you' for all you do for your community and local environment.

Belmont Neighbourhood Centre

Enjoy a yummy lunch and a tour of the wonderful ‘Habitat in Harmony’ community garden.  Share stories of your group's achievements, and discuss any challenges you are facing.  We will also be inviting some special guests to come along - stay tuned for the details.

We are seeking nominations for Alliance Board Members.  We rely on local leaders who can help us plan for the future, manage our organisation, and advocate on behalf of our member groups.
Please get in touch if you are interested.  Nominations are due by Wednesday 11 November 2015.
Congratulations to the Cardiff Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group for a wonderful launch event and community celebration held on 11 October.
 
Over 70 people attended and enjoyed a range of activities including plant swap, plant identification challenge, and a ukelele performance!  Lake Macquarie Mayor, Councillor Jodie Harrison attended and officially launched the group.

The Wangi Scarecrow Competition is on again!
Entries are now open for the 2015 Wangi Scarecrow Competition.
Residents of Wangi Wangi, Buttaba, Myuna Bay, Acadia Vale, Balmoral, Fishing Point and Rathmines have started making their scarecrows, reflecting the theme 'living sustainably through recycling'. Find out more.

Old Waste, New Art

The West Wallsend Sustainable Neighbourhood Group held their first Old Waste, New Art exhibition in October, showcasing a range of incredible creations!

Check out the wonderfully creative pieces and winners - all demonstrating what can be done with 'rubbish'.

 
Morisset and Peninsula Community Celebration and SNAP Launch

Saturday 31 October
10am - 1pm

The Morisset and Peninsula Sustainable Neighbourhood Group are celebrating their official expansion to include Morisset Peninsula residents with a community celebration.
Come along to exchange or buy fresh produce from Southlake Harvest and take a walk around Yunung Community Garden.

Update your membership

Have you renewed your financial membership for 2015-16?

Becoming a financial member is a great way to show your support for Sustainable Neighbourhoods.

By now most Sustainable Neighbourhood groups will have held an Annual General Meeting and renewed everyone's annual membership.

If you haven't updated your membership yet, get in touch with your local group in the next couple of weeks.

 
New Sustainable Neighbourhoods
Council is currently engaging with residents in two new areas to establish Sustainable Neighbourhoods.  The process starts with a survey, and will be followed by various activities in early 2016.  Click on the links below to find out more.
  • Warners Bay Area - including Croudace Bay, Eleebana, Lakelands, Macquarie Hills and Warners Bay.
  • Rathmines Area - including Rathmines, Balmoral and Fishing Point.
