Wrapping up the 25th Anniversary Season

Bountiful is a good way to describe the abundance of the 25th anniversary of Guelph Youth Singers.  What a season it was! Under the direction of Markus Howard, GYS tackled an ambitious 5-concert series that challenged choristers with new material, new collaborations, an original musical production and a commissioned work given as a gift to our founding director, Linda Beaupre.

GYS is very pleased to report that our "25 for 25: The Guelph Youth Choral Campaign" was a success, raising just a few hundred dollars shy of our $25,000 goal. Here is a note from our Treasurer, Kim Gould:  "Further to the parent update meeting last month, GYS has made up the operating deficit predicted at that time.  Due mainly to another generous donation and two successful fundraisers in the final month of the season, we should end the year just out of the red ink and into the black.  Thanks to everyone who organized and supported all of the extra fundraising efforts."

Volunteerism is part of the expectation for each of our GYS families. This expectation involves each family volunteering for 2 events and helping with one fundraising initiative as a minimum per season. Events and fundraising opportunities will be outlined at our annual fall meeting in September. If there is a circumstance that prevents you from volunteering please contact the GYS office to discuss an alternative way that you can be involved.

ANNUAL GENERAL & PARENT MEETING: Wed. Sept. 14th 6-7pm
Important information about the upcoming season, meet other parents and board of directors, volunteer opportunities and sign up.

Announcing the GYS Performance Troupe

Starting in the autumn of 2016, a new ensemble, currently being called the Performance Troupe, will start rehearsals for its inaugural season!

Appealing to youth who love to perform, The Troupe will showcase extended musical and artistic skills that exist within the current membership. This could include instrumental skills, song writing, dance, theatre arts, social justice, and arts administration.  The focus of the group will be to perform around the community in events that our current family of amazing choirs may not be able to accommodate.  PLEASE NOTE: The Troupe will not take away any opportunities from the current choirs, but instead will open up newer unique chances for everyone.

Participation in The Troupe will be based on a successful audition and interview with Artistic Director, Markus Howard. The ensemble is open to any chorister who will be placed in one of the senior choirs (Choir III, SATB or Chamber) in the coming 2016/17 choral season. It is mandatory for anyone considering auditioning to fully participate in the choral season, including festivals and all choir events.

When:                     Weekly Performance Troupe Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 4-6pm
Where:                    Guelph Youth Music Centre
How:                        Auditions can be booked through Cathy Meggison in the GYS office.
