What's new?

December 2015
Well done to all involved with the Winter Market, which was a huge success with lots of amazing craft, design, merchandise and lots and lots of shoppers milling around The Old Church... and lots of money raised.
Great news from St Mary's Primary School which is top of the Hackney schools league table for their summer 2015 year 6 SATs results.

This is a fantastic result. Well done to St Mary’s and all the teachers, staff and pupils in a true joint effort which involved a lot of hard work. What an amazing achievement!
NEW REPORT: Hackney Community Law Centre and Hackney Migrant Centre are pleased to publish: ‘A Place to Call Home: A Report into the Standard of Housing provided to Children in Need in London’.

Read the full report here and the executive summary here.

Hackney Migrant Centre is closed for two weeks over the Christmas period and re-opens on Wednesday, 6th January.
What's coming up?
And don't forget Pub Carols on Friday, 18th December. Meet outside the new church at 8pm.

And if you like your church early on Christmas day we have BCP Mattins at 8.15am in The Old Church... plenty of time for presents afterwards!
Hackney Winter Night Shelter is excited to announce that, reluctant hero of comedy, Daniel Kitson is back for the third time in a row to host their Belter for the Shelter on 6 February 2016.
The full line up:
  • Daniel Kitson - "a national institution"
  • Stewart Lee - "one of the most technically skilled and thought-provoking comics you'll see"
  • Francesca Martinez - "A comic sensation"
  • Earl Okin - "he's a joy, he's a classic, he's a must"
  • Lewis Schaffer - "A bloody good laugh"
  • Sofie Hagen - Edinburgh 2015 Best Newcomer award
  • James Acaster - Chortle Best Breakthrough and Best Show
All funds raised will support Hackney Winter Night Shelter, so have a laugh and support your local homeless shelter. These very popular comedians will sell out very fast... book here.
Much excitement as The Old Church has received funding from Arts Council England to produce its first home-grown festival next Spring!

BREATHE: a celebration of air, Feb 25 - Mar 20 2016.

Output Arts will be installing a wind harp high in the tower of St Mary's new church, and transmitting the music into The Old Church. Inspired by this there will be an amazing line up of artists and musicians to respond to the theme of wind / breath, including Bishi, Jason Singh and Karine Polwart. There's a chance for us all to sing together in a new, playful way, led by Ansuman Biswas, and we're working with local community groups to create a mass installation of windmills in the churchyard. And that's only a taster! Full programme to be announced in January. Watch this space! And if you'd like to get involved, contact here.
OK... not that Breakfast Club... St Mary's Breakfast Club - for 10+ year olds - meets once a month on a Sunday morning for breakfast. It takes a break in January, so the next one is at 10.15am (after the All Age service) on 7th February in the New Church Rooms.
Babysong
Music for 0-3 year olds (and their carers). Every Wednesday morning at 10am in The Old Church.

Babysong has a break over Christmas and returns on 6th January.
