PORTLAND GENERAL AND NEXTERA BET BIG ON A TRIFECTA:
WIND, SOLAR AND STORAGE

Portland General Electric and NextEra Energy Resources are developing the nation’s first major energy facility to integrate wind and solar generation with energy storage: 300 MW of wind, 50 MWac of solar, and 30 MW / 120 MWh of energy storage. Located at the Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility in Morrow County, the facility will be “micrositing” distributed energy storage to allow NextEra to optimize production. “With the Wheatridge project, we’re accelerating Oregon’s transition to clean energy and showing the nation what the future of renewable energy looks like,” said PGE president and CEO Maria Pope.

THE BUZZ FROM DISTRIBUTECH - SMART GRID NW ON THE GROUND IN NEW ORLEANS

There’s nothing like being on the floor of our industry’s biggest show to get a feel for what’s on people’s minds. If you didn’t attend DistribuTECH, or were too busy to get around, read this interview with Smart Grid Northwest’s delegates, Bryce Yonker and Lois Gordon. In talking to over a hundred utility and vendor representatives, they heard a lot about culture change, analytics, DERMS and resource platforms. Read their impressions here. it’s almost as good as being there.

CAN GRID MODERNIZATION SUPPORT UTILITY CORE VALUES? - VIEWS FROM GRIDFWD 2018

How do aspects of grid modernization enhance utilities’ abilities to deliver on their core values” This was one overriding topic at GridFWD 2018 that Cadmus summarizes in the latest article in a great series on the Cadmus website Resources section. “With a forward-thinking vision, some utilities have identified ways to leverage AMI for grid-related use cases that also speak strongly to the utility’s core values,” beyond lower costs and improving accuracy in billing. Read this post for real-world insights from BC Hydro, Excelon, GE and Trove.
