New Podcast on Potential Federal Grid Funding with Karen Wayland of GridWise Alliance

We talked with the new CEO of GridWise Alliance Karen Wayland about Biden Administration priorities for grid modernization from the new administration, as well as the possibility of significant funding for expanded grid capabilities through infrastructure investment via the America Jobs Plan. Listen to it now in your favorite podcast app or online.

Washington Clean Energy Bills: WA Governor Inslee signed the Climate Commitment Act (to create a market-based, economy-wide, cap-and-trade program) and HB 1091) to creates the Clean Fuels program. With the 2019 Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA) for the electric sector, they form a trifecta for decarbonizing the state. See good analyses in the National Law Review and from Davis Wright Tremaine.

Grid Advisory: GridWise Alliance has formed a 29-member Grid Infrastructure Advisory Council (GIAC) to support the Alliance’s call for at least $50 billion in federal spending to modernize electric power T&D.

AZ Clean Energy: The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) voted down its proposed clean energy rules, after a three-year process with broad stakeholder and utility support to transition to 100% clean generation resources by 2050.

PSE Net-Zero: Puget Sound Energy will collaborate with Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. to green hydrogen, utility-scale battery storage and other decarbonization opportunities in line with PSE’s goal to become a “Beyond Net Zero Carbon” energy company by 2045.

$3.25B Loans for Grid: The Western Area Power Administration’s Transmission Infrastructure Program will make available $3.25 billion in loans for supporting electricity transmission projects to bolster renewable energy in the West.
