CSA Signup Day is Friday, February 26!

Ok, it's not a national holiday (yet). You still have to feed the meter, and kids
will be in school. But it is
set aside as a day to celebrate CSAs and the
small, local farms that provide them. If you've already signed up for a CSA, thanks for being a loyal member or early adopter! If you haven't found your farmer yet,
check out the Members and Map below and avoid the "holiday" rush!

Our Interactive Pickup Site Map

If you're ready to become a CSA member, make our Pickup Site Map one of your first stops. There, you can zoom in and out to find the drop-off location that works best for you. (And note that a few farms offer direct home delivery either as their only option or as an additional offering.)

You might find that you live in an area not conveniently served by a CSA delivery. In that case, you can work with one or more farms to
create your own pickup site. This could be at your home, church, small business, or workplace. Imagine the possibilities for creating community with your friends, neighbors, or co-workers! Most farms require between 5 and 20 new memberships to create a new site; bring the farmer to speak to a gathering of like-minded folks and that number becomes much easier to attain.

Feel free to call on Band of Farmers to help you identify farms that might help you fill that void.

Meet Our Supporters

We've invited non-CSA farmers, businesses, and organizations to join us as Supporting Members, and we're proud to introduce them to you.

Healthy Soil Compost is a green and hyper-local business operated by Jonathan Scheffel. By bicycle--year-round--he serves residences and businesses in a growing list of Chicago neighbor-hoods, collecting organic food waste and turning it into soil to grow more.

Check out this and
our other Supporters--and give them your support, too!

Farmers and consumers are asked to answer the question, What does CSA mean to you? This national contest will reward one winner with a $1,000 prize.

Submissions are due by February 15. Check out the contest rules and a sample video (it's a start, but you can do better!).

Become a Food Activist with ISA

Lawmakers are taking notice of the growing demand for local food systems; this hasn't happened on its own. In Illinois, farmers and citizens making their voices heard have been having an impact. Plan to join Illinois Stewardship Alliance (ISA) in Springfield on April 7 for the 7th Annual Local Food Lobby Day at the Capitol. Learn more here, and read about last year's Lobby Day here.

In other legislative news, ISA has worked for the last few years with raw milk producers and health department officials in Illinois, first to fight off a complete ban on raw milk, and then, in the face of a continued threat, to advocate for rules that serve the interests of both the public health and the producers. Click here for a detailed account of these activities.
