David Clarke
Chamber President

October proved to be an action packed month at the Chamber. Firstly, we started the month with our fabulous award nominees and fellow Chamber members gathering for our annual Business Awards evening at Aldwickbury Golf club and I took great personal pleasure in presenting the video clips on the evening and also handing out the well-deserved awards to the ultimate winners.  Secondly, our October business breakfast hosted by St Michael’s Manor featured an excellent presentation given by Chamber members Pat Strods and Jon Hussey on behalf of their respective firms Rayner Essex Accountants and Lumin Wealth management on the very important topic of Auto Enrolment.

Finally, we ended on a high at the end of the month with a networking lunch at the award winning Thompson at Darcy's. We are extremely fortunate to partner with so many of our members throughout the year to deliver professional content at first class venues and this seems a good opportunity to thank everyone who has partnered with us throughout this year for your support.

Top 10 Tips on getting through divorce

1. Get advice early. If you think you might have some initial discussions with your ex about the divorce, the financial aspects of the divorce or about the arrangements for the children, it is essential that you embark on those discussions with knowledge of what your rights are.

2. Keep any discussions ‘without prejudice’ until you have sought advice. If you do start discussions surrounding financial issues or children arrangements, without having taken any legal advice, then make sure it is clear that those discussions are ‘without prejudice’. This means that the discussions are off the record and could not be brought up in any subsequent Court proceedings. If you are minded to agree to a settlement then make sure you make it absolutely clear that you need to take advice before openly confirming your agreement.

Paul Parrish
Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week

We are once again extremely proud of Chamber member Paul Parrish. Paul, and 28 others, recently took part in the new BBC television series; Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week. This mental and physical endurance challenge was a test run by individuals from the worlds special forces.

Although Paul didn't quite make it to the end he completed some tough tasks and lasted longer than a number of other competitors who took part to test their limits.
Paul, who works for the Aspire charity, often gets involved in grueling athletic feats to raise valuable funds which included the incredible effort of completing The Arch to Arc challenge, raising a enormous amount of money to support Aspire and its crucial work.

Huge congratulations Paul!
