One of Italy's finest fabric traders, the Loro Piana family from Trivero, entered the cloth trade in the early 1800s. About a century later, in 1924, Pietro Loro Piana founded "Ing. Loro Piana & C”, the current company. Soon after, the family started their own fabric production in the town of Valsesia located in the Val D´Aosta, which lies at the base of the Alps. This location was strategically selected for conveniently washing the wool with the clean pure water that originates at the glaciers nearby. Nowadays 95% Loro Piana's glacier water is recycled in a closed circuit system to ensure sustainability and remain environmentally friendly.
In 1941, during the Second World War, Pietro’s nephew Franco took over the company, and by the end of the war, the firm began establishing its reputation as a supplier of premium wool and cashmere textiles for a growing haute couture industry, both home and abroad. Loro Piana works with the best yarns that can be obtained from the different types of wool, and to this day they remain one of the highest quality weavers located in Italy.
