God is real. God is love. God is forgiving. God is forever.
VBS is next week. Please pray for all the children and volunteers as we get closer to this event. The VBS message is above.  Please pray the following prayer throughout the week as we prepare for VBS:
Loving God,
We come to you with grateful hearts that it is again time for Vacation Bible School in our church. We thank you that we have the opportunity to share the Scripture and your Good News with the children and families of our congregation and community. Let your Holy Spirit move through everyone who will have anything to do with any part of our Vacation Bible School. Thank you Lord for choosing us to share your love and hope with others. We pray this is Jesus Christ’s name.
CACS Need Your Help!
CACS has been made aware of an individual in need of inexpensive housing - a room to rent, a small apartment, or even a safe place to pitch a tent (but would need a tent donated or loaned).  The individual is currently employed but only has about $350 per month available for living expenses right now. If you know of any one who may be able to help this individual, please contact Chris Furr (910-409-8863) or Ann Boston (910-762-6725).  Thank you for your help.
A Stewardship Moment
Why do we give our money to the church? For some folks, it’s just something that has been done for years in their family and they know that it takes funds to run a church. For others, it’s because they believe that is what they are supposed to do, and for others it’s a true love for God and thanking him for the many bountiful gifts he has given each and every one of us.
When our church had plumbing problems a few weeks ago, we hired a plumber who is a person that always does the best possible job that he can do no matter whether it is a large job or a small one. In our case, it was a very large job and it was complicated by the 90°+ weather. Buddy Mintz and his assistant worked long, hot hours in the sun and for several nights, worked until dark.
One evening when I dropped by the church for a meeting, I saw Buddy and his assistant out working with flashlights. They wanted to get the job done so that the church could use our restrooms. When the job was finished, it was finished like it should have been; an example of dedicated, outstanding workmanship by a man with a Christian background and a very deep love for God.
When he received his check for the job from the church, he told his wife, “Do not deposit that check until you write a check to First Christian Church from us.” He was giving thanks to God for allowing him to do his job for us and returning a portion of what was given to him, back to God. There is no better definition of Stewardship than this.
Thanks be to God.

SWATT Team Date Change

We will meet for lunch at Noon at the Bridge Tender, 1414 Airlie Road. Please call Phyllis Powell, 910-395-1400, no later than Sunday, August 9 to make your reservation. We look forward to seeing everyone. Visitors are always welcome.
Top the Tubs Is Back!
Beginning 19 July, we will be collecting school supplies to provide to students at Alderman Elementary.   The collection tubs will be in the Narthex and in the Fellowship Hall. We are starting this effort now since there are so many good sales going on at Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Walmart, Target and other stores where for a few pennies you can buy number 2 pencils, colored pencils, glue sticks, composition and spiral notebooks, 3 ring notebooks, erasers, white glue, dry-erase markers, wide-ruled notebook paper, crayons, plain white copy paper, construction paper, Clorox wipes and tissues - all items that the school needs for its students.  These supplies can make a big difference in a child's life.  Thank you for your support.  The Outreach Ministry Team.
Throwback Thursday
We have been participating in Throwback Thursday for a little over a month now, over on our Facebook page. Throwback Thursday is the name of a weekly social media posting event that users participate in to share and look back fondly on some of their favorite memories -- hence the "throwback" theme. We have gotten such a great response from our friends! We are currently looking for submissions to our upcoming Throwback Thursday posts! If you have a “vintage” photo featuring past or present members of the church, please email them to the office...or bring them in anytime!
Change to News and Views Deadline
Starting Monday, July 27, the deadline for articles for the News & Views will be changed to 9am. Please submit all articles to the office in a digital format that is print-ready. If you need help or a refresher course in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, or emailing with attachments, someone will be available to walk you through.  Appointment times for digital help are limited, so please call the office to see what is available.
