district clean-up progress

graffiti removal on buildings to begin next week

The University District SID will begin graffiti removal services from buildings located within district. Starting Monday, July 18th, Stewards will identify properties and reach out to owners/managers to obtain prior authorization.

Once you receive a removal request, an authorization form can be submitted online at A hard copy can be printed at the same website and returned by fax or email. Please review the graffiti removal terms carefully and contact the UDSID Manager, Matt Hansen, if you have any questions (614-294-5113 or If you would like any future removal requests routed to another individual or manager, please make note of it in your request.

Owner and property manager generated requests will be taken once the SID Hotline opens on August 1st. Stewards will still continue to actively seek instances of graffiti and initiate requests for removal moving forward.

For the remainder of July, Stewards will be working from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The number of service hours scheduled will remain the same. A coverage adjustment was made in order to better facilitate training.

Steward Spotlight!

Kelley Byas will be the daytime Steward when Ben Cropper, the UDSID's Site Supervisor, is not scheduled. She just recently moved to Columbus from Brooklyn, NY so be sure to welcome her to our city! Kelley loves being outside and takes any opportunity she can to work in her garden and cook on the grill.  UDSID is glad to have Kelley on our Steward team!

patrol accountability system to be installed

Stewards will be assigned to regular patrol routes once the district's cleanliness can be maintained and other special projects are completed. The planned routes will make sure all properties inside the SID are addressed and monitored. To do this, Stewards will carry a wand which must be physically checked-in at installed stations.

The stations are small disks mounted discreetly along the route - usually on a utility pole. The wand logs the specific Steward who does the check-in and the time. Data can then be downloaded and analyzed to account for any delayed check-ins against the Steward's daily incident report. Other SIDs in Columbus use the same system which has created a high level of accountability and confidence for property owners.
