First Monday is March 7th
Avery Brewing from 5:30 to 7 pm

The election, of officers and board, will take place!

Those who have expressed interest in being an officer or board member include:
Bill Buffum, Deb Conley, Devin Croft and Don Janicki.

We have five positions to fill, but only four people have expressed an interest in serving.  We will need one more person to fill all positions.
I suggest that all the above people get in touch with each other and make some plans.  If any of you need  contact information get a hold of John B.
Results Men's 60+ Team
The Boulder Road Runners team of Doug Bell, Heath Hibbard and Jan Frisby competed in Sunday's USATF 8K National Championship in Brea, CA, unofficially earning a 4th place finish overall in the 60+ Men's Division. Cal Coast A and B teams earned a 1-2 finish while another west coast team managed to get by BRR for the final podium spot. One of our arch rivals from the 2015 Grand Prix series in the 60+ Men's division, Shore Athletic Club of New Jersey, traveled from the east coast in a bid to outscore us. However, one of their team members had to withdraw on race day due to an injury, leaving them 1 man short of the three member minimum required to score, leaving them with zero points for the day.

When combined with our earlier 2nd place finish in the USATF Cross-Country Nationals in Bend, OR three weeks earlier, Sunday's finish gives BRR a total of 160 points in the 2016 standings and a solid second place overall behind Cal Coast's perfect 200 point total in two races.

BRR had it's own injury bug for this race as John Victoria also had to scratch from the event in the final week due to back pain that flared up at the last minute. Otherwise BRR might well have challenged Cal Coast for 1st or 2nd place on Sunday.

Doug Bell made his first appearance in his new age group, the 65-69 division and debuted in fine fashion with a first place time of 30:37 (6:10/mile), 25 seconds ahead of the runner up. Heath Hibbard was next across the line for BRR in 31:30 (6:21/mile) good for 8th place in the highly competitive 60-64 age group. Jan Frisby, despite having an off-day actually salvaged the race for BRR with his 4th place finish in the 70-74 division in 39:12. Without his presence BRR would have suffered the same fate as Shore AC, ending the day with zero points instead of the 70 we actually scored. In 2015, Jan was the winner of the 70-74 division in this event with a sterling 32:24, giving a glimpse of what 'might have been' if  fate had been kinder to BRR.

Final individual results can be found here:  Select the "Results" tab and choose "Masters 8K" from the pull down menu in the "Race" box for detailed results. You can select the overall or any of the age/gender divisions in the "Division" box. Official team results will be posted on the USATF site shortly.

Although Cal Coast has a 40 point lead over BRR after two events, the gap may not be as substantial as it seems. In 2015 Cal Coast only made it to two of the USATF Grand Prix events in the 60+ division: the Brea 8K and the Club Cross Country Championship in San Francisco in December. It takes a minimum of three events to be considered in the standings. There are a total of 9 events on the GP calendar in 2016 with the best 5 team performances being considered in the final tally. So there are plenty of scoring opportunities remaining in the year. In 2015 BRR was well behind 2 other teams throughout the year and only pulled out the final victory in the last race of the year at the Club Cross Country Nationals. So there is plenty of time left to make up ground and move into the #1 position.

Next up in the series is the 10K Master's National Championship on April 24 in Dedham, MA. We have 2-3 runners already expressing interest in this race. Anyone else interested in participating in a 60+ Men's team for this race can contact me or Bruce Kirschner to let us know of your interest, the sooner the better. As always, a minimum of 3 runners and maximum of 5 make up a full team in this division.

Stay healthy,

Devin Croft

Housing for Olympic Athletes

Help for Brazilian Olympic athletes is being organized by Jeff Dumas.  He is working with the US State Department and the US embassy in Brazil to help give these athletes some time out of country to train and avoid possible Zika virus exposure prior to the Olympic Games.

If this works out, these athletes will need housing..  If you have a room or know of someone who might, please contact Jeff-
