Jordan Sewell - President, Student Sustainability Council (SSC)
For the past five semesters, Jordan has served as the Director of Community Outreach and the President of the SSC at IUPUI. Between the two roles, event planning for occasions such as October’s Campus Sustainability Month, developing and maintaining relationships with sustainability-focused organizations around Indy, and connecting students to worthwhile volunteer opportunities are just a few of the many activities that punctuated every school year. While each semester presented challenges new and old, he cites his participation in the SSC as the most rewarding experience of his college career.  “The Council really enhanced my education by allowing me to practice and employ many of the management concepts I’ve learned in class. Not only that, involvement in the SSC afforded me the honor of meeting and working with some of the city’s most passionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated sustainability advocates and experts,” said Jordan.
Jordan is a graduating senior in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the Kelley School of Business. Having a keen awareness of the role business plays in society and the environment, he will also be graduating with a minor in Sustainable Policy and Management from SPEA. His post-graduation aspirations include getting involved in renewable energy or environmental management; he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of graduate school, either!
From Jordan's nominator: "Jordan has been a steadfast student leader and champion of sustainability at IUPUI during his academic career. He is thoughtful, creative, and works diligently to encourage other students to become interested and engaged in sustainability. In addition to his wonderful interpersonal skills, Jordan is consistently looking to add to his sustainability knowledge and is a great example of a student deeply invested in their own intellectual development. He will be dearly missed when he graduates, but we're looking forward to see what he has up his sleeve for his last Earth Month on campus!"
