2018 has been another great year for the LEO office in Dún Laoghaire - Rathdown. Highlights include the creation of 56 new jobs in the region and approval of over €1,000,000 in grant support to local businesses to help them start and scale.
A total of 147 grants were approved with amounts varying from €500 up to €45,000 per grant. The largest sector supported was ICT (mostly software) - receiving 61% of approved funding (€670,000).
Owen Laverty, Head of Enterprise, said "We are the only grant body available to DLR based companies that take no equity. From now on, the Priming Grant doesn’t require any repayment so it’s a fantastic way to get an MVP or prototype built or your company staffed (including your own salary) before looking for private funding. Investors appreciate having a validated proposal and will require less equity, this is an essential part of any investment strategy. For companies looking to ultimately access HPSU funding this is the perfect route as validation by the LEO gives the proposition great credibility (the LEOs are funded by Enterprise Ireland)."
We have made the application process extremely easy (online applications on www.localenterprise.ie/dlr) with a turn around time of less than 6 weeks.
In response to the increased level of high potential companies, we have created a new course called the Katapult Programme which is designed to give the best support to companies on the start of the journey. The programme is based on significant experience in supporting companies over the last 20 years, addressing critical business elements. This is in addition to our normal Start Your Own Business Programme course which is designed to support companies with local ambition.
There was so much activity in 2018 between mentoring, training, schools programmes, grants funding and other supports that we decided to put it on an Infographic (below) to make it digestible. If you are in business and have less than ten employees or looking to start a business: please contact us to see how we can help. All of our grants have eligibility criteria which are online at https://www.localenterprise.ie/dlr
