Our annual Tour of Gardens takes place THIS Saturday, July 19


Leah Boehm's garden artworkYou won't want to miss these six stunning private gardens and (new this year) two fantastic local non-profit partner gardens: Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden and George Weyerhaeuser Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection. You will enjoy strolling through each garden during your self-guided tour, talking with and learning from Master Gardeners, and browsing local visual art and craft offerings. Of course it wouldn’t be SYMPHONY without music, would it? Check out our amazing artists who will be performing Saturday during the event.

Bonsai Museum

12:30PM-3:30PM

Local guitarist and Federal Way Symphony favorite Leon Christian will play Renaissance lute transcriptions by Dowland, Robertson, and Mudarra, J.S. Bach lute suite no.4 in E maj BWV 1006a, The Grand Overture by Mauro Giuliani, Preludes no. 1, 2 and 3 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, La Catherdal by Augustine Barrios, and selections by Weiss, Sor, Holland, Giuliani, Tedesco, Rodrigo, Andrew York and more. 

Hailed as “an excellent guitarist” (David Brandon) and “very talented…” (John Sutherland), Leon Christian is celebrated for charismatically and virtuosically bringing to life a broad repertoire of musical styles.

Flesher Garden - 2-4PM

Bianca (violin) and Rosemary (flute/guitar) will play a Celtic tunes set plus Gavotte in D - Bach; Country Dance - von Weber; German Dance - von Dittersdorf; "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" - Bach; "St. Anthony Chorale" - Brahms; Menuet and Romanza from "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" - Mozart; Canon - Pachelbel; Air in D - Bach; Rondeau from orchestral suite #2 - Bach; and Allegro from flute sonata in F – Handel.

Bianca is an eighth-grader at Mason Middle School (Tacoma) and performs with Tacoma Youth Symphony. Rosemary Ponnekanti spent ten years as a professional double bass player and is the arts reporter for The News Tribune, as well as organist at St. Luke's Episcopal.

Federal Way Symphony's 15th Annual Tour of Gardens tickets are available at these retailers (including the day of the tour): Branches Garden Center, Oriental Garden Center, Marlene’s Market (Federal Way), Furney’s Nursery (Des Moines), and Watson’s Greenhouse & Nursery (Puyallup).

Tickets are also available at Federal Way Symphony’s office, located in the Federal Way Public Schools building, at 33330 8th Ave South, Federal Way, from 10AM-4PM today, tomorrow, and Friday.
