WINTER 2016

In 2005, Read Muskegon started as a small volunteer run non-profit. Right from the start we had a huge mission, to increase the quality of life in our county through improved literacy. Today, our program menu includes 1-1 tutoring, small group classes, drop-in literacy labs, family literacy activities, and a focus on workforce development.  We are especially proud to be offering classes in the Muskegon County Jail, helping both men and women to be better prepared to re-enter our communities.

In 2016, we were able to provide over 4500 contact hours of literacy instruction reaching over 250 adults.  Through our Family Literacy programs, we worked with over 100 low-literacy parents and 300 children to provide them with the skills and resources they need to break the generational cycle of illiteracy.

As we welcome a new year, we will continue to develop our leadership role in training, program delivery, referral, collaboration, and education, ensuring that literacy programs in Muskegon County are accessible to those who need them most.

During this season of giving, there is nothing more valuable than the gift of literacy. Thanks to all of you who have been a part of spreading the joy and power of literacy in 2016.

Moving Our Mission Forward
