If you can read this, at some point in your life you were given one of the greatest and most powerful gifts there is,
the gift of literacy.

As 2019 comes to a close, pause for a moment and think about how that gift has impacted your life this past year...

Did you read an amazing book that was so good
you couldn’t wait to discuss it with others?
Did you help your own child with their homework?
Or volunteer as a tutor or a reading buddy?
Did you find a special recipe to create for the holidays?
Did you vote or get involved in your community
to help make it a better place?
Did you get your dream job?
Or maybe your first job?

Literacy isn’t just the ability to read, it’s the ability to put those words to work to change the course of your life.  Literacy pulls you outside of yourself and connects you to a wider world. Fills you with wonder and inspiration. Gives you the power to make informed decisions. Literacy is more than fundamental, it’s transformational.

Every one of us deserves the opportunity to become a strong, literate reader. Every one of deserves an equal chance to succeed, no matter our age.

Our focus at Read Muskegon? Empowering people and building stronger communities through the gift of literacy

As we enter our 15th year, the demand for our services continues to grow and so does the impact we are having on the future of Muskegon County. One thing we know for sure? It's going to take all of us working together to solve the literacy crisis that currently exists in our country, our county, our neighborhoods.

If you can read this, you are in possession of one of the most valuable gifts there is. A gift that no one can take away from you.  Please join me in making a year-end donation to Read Muskegon or becoming a volunteer.  Together, we can ensure that everyone in Muskegon County has an equal opportunity to experience the joy and the power of the gift of literacy.

With Gratitude,

Melissa Moore
