2019 Sales Volume Up 13.4% , Higher Days on Market + Inventory
The evenings are starting to cool but fantastic weather has highlighted the start of fall.  With the Children back in school and summer wrapping up fall has arrived here in Canmore! Fall activities are in full swing with lots of locals and visitors alike enjoying some great biking and hiking.  The winter season and all the fun it brings being just around the corner we are starting to see some new buyers who want to be into a new purchase for ski season which is typical for this time of the year.


The Canmore Real Estate Market has been quite active with 13.4% increase in number of sales from January through the end of August year over year.  Coupled with the increase in the number of sales we have seen an increase in our listing inventory which has increased by 27.4%.   Our current listing inventory shows signs that we are still in a sellers market in some segments however moving towards a balanced market in other market segments.  

The increase in sales volume has seen some sellers feeling the market has gone up higher than what the buyers are willing to pay.  This may be evidenced by the average days on market of the active listings 28.5% higher than one year ago and increased inventory.

YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES® has raised close to $550,000 in the past ten years. More than 1500 participants from across the Bow Valley have taken a stand against domestic violence by walking, volunteering, and fundraising for Walk A Mile!
As part of the YWCA’s commitment to shaping a thriving, equitable society, Walk A Mile registration is open to everyone regardless of gender, age or ability. We are grateful for all of the participants, sponsors, donors, volunteers and supporters who have been instrumental in making this event so impactful.

Alberta Attracting More International Travelers 

From the incredible landscape to the world-class events to the friendly people, Alberta has a lot to offer international tourists. In response, international visitors (including business travelers) spent almost $2.2 billion in the province last year. Encouragingly, spending in the first three months of 2019 was 26 per cent higher than during the same period last year.
According to Statistics Canada’s Visitor Travel Survey, international residents made 2.38 million visits to Alberta in 2018. The number of visits was up by 15 per cent in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the first quarter of 2018.
Ontario is the most popular destination, accounting for 44 per cent of all visits last year, followed by British Columbia at 24 per cent, Quebec at 14 per cent and Alberta at 6.7 per cent.
Spending by international visitors to Alberta represented about 10 per cent of the total amount spent in Canada by visitors last year.  The most was spent in Ontario (34 per cent of the Canadian total) followed by B.C. (30 per cent) and Quebec (16 per cent).
The proportion of visitors to Alberta is almost evenly split between those from the U.S. (51 per cent) and those from the rest of the world (49 per cent). Nationally, it is 74 per cent U.S. visitors compared to just 26 per cent from countries other than the U.S.
Tourism is a growth industry for Alberta and, hopefully, the strong showing at the start of 2019 will be the story for the year as a whole.

Join us for free drop-in workshops taught by Bow Valley artists, live performances, artist demonstrations, films, a community campfire, and the Mountain Made artisan market - art and creativity will abound throughout the weekend, promising fun for people of all ages to enjoy! Plus, tour Canmore’s incredible collection of artist studios and galleries! 

Throughout the program, all workshops, classes, activities and performances are FREE, open to the public, and drop-in on a first-come, first-served basis, unless otherwise stipulated. Programs designed for all ages - families, teens and adults. 

Several programs do have an age restriction, clearly stated in the listing below.

Community Campfire

Cozy up to the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy live music, storytelling,and interactive performances! Featuring crowd favourites Shred Kelly, Bow Valley’s Northern Quarter, and Indigenous dancers & drummers.

Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29 • 10 am to 4 pm

Join us for free workshops, artist demonstrations, live performances and drop-in activities for all ages, led by Bow Valley artists! Full schedule to be released in September.
