As we look out our windows we see the beautiful winter wonderland that is Canmore and Banff this year.  We have just come through an early Winter cold snap and the long term forecast looks stunning with great temperatures along with many days that include more snow.  The long term forecast even calls for snow on Christmas Day!   The positive side of the cold weather is that the Nordic Centre and ski hills could make snow (if needed) Although Callum has been training and Racing with the FIS team, Brad has only been able to do a few runs so far as he tests his knee but so far so good and he hopes to get on the sloped over the holidays with Lauren who is visiting from University.  Asher and Drew have not been able to get out as Asher has been focused on Hockey but will be out over the Christmas school break.  We hope you and your family will be able to get out and enjoy all that the area has to offer this holiday season. 

 
The Canmore Sales volume for the past 12 month has been very strong and boasts an increase of over 25% from last year which is also the highest in the last five years. 
 
The number of active listings presently is very low making our market as a whole leaning towards a Sellers’ market.  While we are seeing this very evident in some market segments others do remain a little slower.  The average number of active listings for the last 4 years is 238 and we sit at 162 active listings, about 38% less listings than that 4 year average and about 54% less listings than the average number of active listings for the 5 year period 2007- 2011 where the average was 353 active listings.  We are seeing buyer strength from the local market which continues to stay strong with great tourism dollars and visitation over the past few years and expecting to continue strong all through 2017 as advance bookings are very strong for Winter and Summer 2017.  Given the low Canadian dollar we are a bargain for the US traveler while also continuing to keep Canadians within Canada as well.  Other buyer strength is coming from the retiring Baby Boomers who visualize themselves as being very active for the next 25 to 30 years and they are moving here enjoy all the activities and cultural events between Canmore and Banff.

What's Happening in Canmore!

A magical forest of decorated trees and lights sets the scene for a variety of events to bring together families and people from Canmore, Calgary and area. Groups of school children visit for special Christmas crafts and entertainment, curlers take part in a Festival bonspeil, families come to see the trees and experience the enchanting atmosphere, seniors join us for tea, and the adult highlight of the weekend is a Saturday night celebration of food, drink and music amongst the trees. Throughout the event we are lining up non-stop entertainment of many genres.
Special events for families include Sneak-a-Peek evening, Christmas crafts and Breakfast with Santa.
The event is hosted at Solara Resort and Spa. Canmore Rotary welcomes tree sponsors, event sponsors and attendees alike!

Party on the Pond

Dec 31
