Message from Revd. Christine

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

You have recently received our stewardship pack. Our aims are to bridge the gap in our budget and to give us the possibility to fund and encourage further ministry. We are a small community, but the cost of ministry is high, so please do spend some time prayerfully considering how you might serve God in the Church.

The stewardship result will be announced on 15 December so please send your reply slips on the Stewardship brochure
here to the Treasurer, Rosemary Raedler, Christ Church Office, Avenue d'Ouchy 60, 1006 Lausanne by 8 December. Financial giving is confidential and known only to the treasurer. Generous giving should not feel like a burden, but like a joyful response to God’s own generosity towards us.

You will have seen on the “Come to Life” brochure something about who we are as the people of God in this place. We are the people of God who:

Seek and worship God
Walk closer with Christ
Build a loving and flourishing community
Live beyond ourselves and turn to the world

It is about who we are rather than what we do. Being comes before doing even though doing helps us in our becoming. But what do these four points tell us about who we are as a community? What do we do well? What might we do better? How do these points help us in growth and service? What does a worshiping, seeking community look like?

In a way these points are all related to hospitality.

When we come to worship we know the hospitality of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as God meets us in Word and Sacrament and we welcome him into our hearts as we minister to him. We walk closely with Christ as he walks with us and we break bread with him. Communities flourish as we open our hearts to others in acceptance and care. The Kingdom comes as we look to those who suffer and to the challenges of the world with hospitality, kindness and consideration and perhaps some wisdom born of hospitable welcoming.

Advent is a time of waiting for the great festival of Christmas which is, again, all about hospitality. We welcome Christ into the world and into our hearts and he welcomes us into the life of God. The readings of Advent resound with the hospitality of Mary and Joseph towards God and with the hospitality of God towards them as each acts as guest and host. They are beautiful stories which are well known, but I think that they always hold something new for us all every year.

This Advent we will be looking at 3 of these beautiful texts in the context of the four points above and hospitality.

I hope you will feel moved to come and share the hospitality of God and of each other as we look to building a loving and flourishing community rooted in worship, proximity to Christ and generosity as we serve in the world.
