Written by: Brooke Savill, Student Ambassador
At each monthly meeting, we have the opportunity to hear from community leaders about issues affecting our city and schools.
At our December meeting, Edmond Public Schools Foundation Student Ambassadors met with Sheila Stinnett, the current Executive Director of Edmond Family Counseling, to discuss mental health issues within our city.
The Student Ambassadors took the initiative and asked thoughtful questions about how they can help their peers and how the pandemic has affected mental health.
Stinnett explained that depression and anxiety affects Oklahoma heavily. She discussed how to help friends and family that have been affected by depression and anxiety and steps we could take for ourselves or friends. These tools included accessing the suicide hotline, contacting Oklahomas 211 Heartline or gathering a strong support system.
If you are in need or know anyone that could benefit from these services contact the Suicide Hotline number at 800-273-8255 or Oklahomas 211 Heartline number at (405) 840-9396
