Each year, Edmond Public Schools Foundation recognizes those who do the day-to-day work in our schools by hosting the Celebration of Excellence. This is an exciting event where the Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year are named in front of their peers and administrators.
Last year’s teacher of the year, Jessica Harraman said, “As someone who attended Edmond schools as a student, it has always been apparent that EPS is full of high-quality teachers who are tirelessly devoted to providing their students with the best educational opportunities. Having the opportunity to represent Edmond Public Schools as their Teacher of the Year is an incredible honor, and yet I will always fully acknowledge that this district is full of teachers who are equally qualified for this title.” This year, we will also be celebrating the New Teacher of the Year!
Each year, the site teachers, teacher of the year and support staff of the year receive goodie bags full of gift cards, special coupons, post it notes, Sharpies, lip balm, etc. Last year, the student ambassadors were responsible for securing many of these items.
Along with asking for items for the goodie bags, the student ambassadors have set a goal to raise $10,000 to host the Celebration of Excellence for the first time ever! When describing the idea for the student ambassadors to host this event, Regan Giordanno, EPSF Student Ambassador Officer said, “It makes total sense for the students to thank the teachers and support staff. We are excited to have the vehicle as Student Ambassadors to do that, but we want all students to get involved. This isn’t just about us. This is about their education too.” Our fundraising committee is busy setting up restaurant nights and other fundraisers to help meet our goal to host the Celebration of Excellence.
“When the student ambassadors told me they wanted to focus their fundraising on the Celebration of Excellence to help honor EPS teachers and staff, I was inspired by their enthusiasm! They are very aware of what goes into making sure they have an excellent education, and they just want to give back,” said Deanna Boston, Executive Director of EPS Foundation.
The EPSF Student Ambassadors are ready to give back to our hard-working teachers and staff in this district and are excited for this opportunity!
