FOL Annual Sale Returns
The Friends of the Garland County Library celebrates 45 years of operating as a non-profit support organization for the Garland County Library. Incorporated in 1976, this group’s purpose is to increase library services by raising funds through the sale of donated books, magazines, and other materials year-round in the library’s Book Sale Room and during the annual spring sale. Funds are also raised from yearly membership dues, monetary donations, and various other fundraisers. All donations made to the Friends of the Library (FOL) are tax-deductible and proceeds are used to sponsor Library programming and special events.
The largest fundraiser each year is the annual spring sale which was canceled in 2020 and postponed to fall this year. The sale will be located in the Library’s auditorium, meeting rooms, and the Book Sale Room. As in previous years, members of the Friends of the Library enjoy the perk of a preview day on Friday, September 24th from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Memberships can be purchased at any time leading up to and at the annual sale for $5. The sale will be open to the general public on Saturday, September 25th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
President of the FOL Board Peggy Young said, “we want to especially thank the wonderful support we get from Garland County residents for the last 45 years. Our organization is dependent on both book/material donations as well as monetary donations from the community and we’ve been astonished by the level of support we’ve seen throughout the pandemic.” Young also thanks all the FOL volunteers that spend their time helping the organization. Volunteers are encouraged to join the FOL members each Monday and Thursday morning in the Book Sale Room for book sorting, pricing, and organizing. The FOL will be seeking extra volunteers during the annual sale this September. Follow the FOL on Facebook at facebook.com/friendsofthegarlandcountylibrary for more information and updates.
