Join us on Facebook Live for a talk with Hot Springs native, David Hill, about his highly anticipated new book The Vapors: A Southern Family, the New York Mob, and the Rise and Fall of Hot Springs, America's Forgotten Capital of Vice.  Mr. Hill will be about the content of his book, and his experiences researching it. The publisher’s description for the book teases about “the days before Vegas was big, when the Mob was at its peak and neon lights were but a glimmer on the horizon,” referring to Hot Springs as “a little Southern town” that “styled itself as a premier destination for the American leisure class.” The Vapors has received acclaim and buzz from numerous media outlets. The New York Times Book Review lists it as a 2020 summer reading pick, while Thrillist calls it “a deeply researched work... full of organized crime, cons, bootleggers, and all kinds of other seedy characters you hope for in a colorful history book."

Garland County Library is joining the Arkansas Digital Library Consortium (ADLC). This means that our OverDrive/Libby selection will go from approximately 21,000 titles to over 70,000 titles!

We're hoping to make the transition to the ADLC as smooth as possible. Existing patrons will likely have to re-login, using their GCL card number and PIN, to the ADLC when the transition is complete in early July.

There will be a few changes to checkout limits and holds.

  • Users are limited to 5 checkouts at a time.
  • Titles lend for 14 days instead of 21.
  • Users are permitted 7 holds at a time on each account.
