13 ways to build a stronger news business

There are more tools and services than ever to help digital news organizations publish content, grow an audience, earn revenue and manage finances, which is… great!

But we’ve also heard from LION members that the growing number of options can be hard to keep up with, especially for small teams without a dedicated product lead.

That’s why we’ve created the LION Tools & Services Directory, featuring a running list of popular Content Management Systems, donation platforms, project management tools and other services designed for independent publishers.

LION does not endorse any particular tools or services, but we hope this list will be a helpful starting place for news publishers trying to build or improve their tech stack.

Now here are 13 other ways to build a stronger, more sustainable news business...

Improve your business operations

  • Choose a CMS built for small independent publishers. Patch Labs offers all the features you need to publish and monetize your work – and none of the things you don’t. Request a demo» (Sponsored)

  • Find grant opportunities as a for-profit small business. This free workshop will cover how small businesses can access grants and low-cost capital options, even now that most pandemic-related aid has expired. (May 31)
