November Extra Edition!

Good Morning Everyone,

I had a couple of messages that couldn't wait until the next newsletter so here is a quick extra edition - also a repeat of some of the bits from the last one that you might have missed

Volunteer Event! MONDAY 23RD NOVEMBER

We've been advised that there are 9 stall spaces available for organisations looking for volunteers for an NHS Staff Event. They would like to promote the 5 working days a year, which can be used to volunteer either during one week, Mon - Fri, or an hour every Wednesday afternoon for all staff. This is a great free opportunity. The venue will provide chairs and tables and the event will most likely run from midmorning to about 3/4pm in the afternoon.

As there are limited stalls this will be based on a First Come / First Serve basis so once you've read the rest of this section pop me an email to and I will forward your information on.

We just need to inform you of the NHS England’s volunteering policy which states:
This policy supports our employees to volunteer in organisations whose aims are consistent with our purpose and values, and specifically who are seeking to achieve one or more of the following:

  • Help people to live healthier lives, prevent people from dying prematurely;
  • Enhance the quality of life for people with long term conditions;
  • Help people to recover from ill health;
  • Ensure people have a positive experience of care;
  • Caring for people in safe environments;
  • Promote equality and reduce inequalities in health outcomes.

St George's Day Grant

A one off opportunity has arisen for community and voluntary organisations to apply for a grant of up to £100 to celebrate St George’s Day, 23rd April 2016, or the week it falls (Mon 18th - Sun 24th April 2016) in Southampton.

The aim of this grant is to bring communities together to celebrate our country’s national day, to explore what it means to be English in our modern multicultural communities and to get to know one another.  This could be with a community lunch or activity day, for example.  We are particularly interested in events that will bring different groups of people together – such as people who are different ages or from different backgrounds.

To help you do this Southampton Voluntary Services and the Chamber of Commerce (via Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation HIoWCF) are offering a contribution of up to £100 towards the costs of each event your organisation is holding. The deadline for applications is Monday 23rd November at 5pm and we will notify you of the outcome and pay you before Christmas. Please contact Auran Sood, Funding & Fundraising Development Worker for any queries or support on 023 8021 6013 or email her at
