MCC kids serving at A. Montoya Food Pantry

“There were so many smiling faces…so much laughter…and abundance.  It was just amazing.”

What do you think is being described here?  A family reunion?  Disneyland, maybe?
This description was actually made regarding the monthly food pantry held at A. Montoya Elementary. Click here to read more.

Starbucks & Salvation
Feeling the Effects of the Reformation
by Elizabeth Allan & Jodi Kenney

I knew that this year’s Clarus conference, held February 24-26 in Albuquerque, and hosted by Desert Springs Church, highlighted 500 years since Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church in protest of the addendums to Scripture. But I wasn’t sure what to expect—a history lesson, or maybe a weekend long biographical account?
For the 20 of us from Mountain Christian Church who ventured out to see, it was far more than just a history lesson! Instead, Mark Dever of 9 Marks Ministries and Greg Gilbert of Third Avenue Baptist Church presented us with a living example of the effects of that fateful day. By means of prayer and careful exegesis they read and preached out of the book of Romans.  It was exciting to hear these two men use different styles as they expounded the intricacies of this letter.
The apostle, Paul, wrote to the church in Rome to instruct them so that they would be better equipped to share the glory of the gospel rightly. It was a church he had never met, but His Holy Spirit-inspired words remain to convict, exhort, teach, and comfort us today. God's Word has not changed, and neither has His message.
As Mr. Gilbert launched into a powerful exposition of Romans 1:16-17 he reminded us that there may be plenty of books, messages, and even activities that might excite us, but none of them has the life-giving, eternity-changing power of the gospel of salvation.
Mr. Gilbert lamented that, as Christians, we are often called narrow-minded because we know that the gift of salvation can only be accepted from the nail-scarred hands of our Savior. Though it is His atonement that allows us to approach, the world accuses us of exclusion. How do we, then, as Christians, break that stereotype of being an exclusive group and instead stretch ourselves to INVITE everyone?
Mr. Gilbert provided a useful analogy. He mentioned that in Kentucky, Starbucks has a “Free Coffee Day.” He loves “Free Coffee Day”, being a Gold Card member and all, and he said that people line up around the block to get their free coffee.
He noted that it is interesting—no one goes to Pizza Hut for free Starbucks Coffee, nor do they expect Starbucks to deliver free coffee to their homes.  They must go to Starbucks to receive their free coffee. And that is what it is for us to share the gospel---we simply invite them to accept Jesus' free gift of salvation. It is up to them to show up, to accept the invitation of salvation that Jesus extends.

We must never think that our God is ever indifferent to those He has come down to rescue! This is the God who gives faith and righteousness which can only come from Jesus.  And it is you and I who are privileged to bear this universal invitation to our family,  friends,  community,  state, nation, and world. We get to extend the invitation… but it is not up to us whether a person accepts. It is not our job to make someone believe when we tell them about Him; it is God whose Word brings people unto Himself, out of death into life. We speak it and watch what He might choose to do with it.
Every day is a great day to share the gospel message and we have some specific upcoming opportunities! Easter is April 16th and is a great time to invite a neighbor. Our Foundations class is kicking off another series beginning April 2  and would be a blessing to anyone seeking to learn more about God’s Word.  Also, coming up this summer, Vacation Bible School will be held in July!  So many opportunities to invite people to learn more about God’s Word and engage with God’s people!  I hope you invite someone to coffee and share God’s love with them!

This Week at MCC

We are creating a hard-copy photo directory for our church!
We want to do the best job that we can to help our body
welcome, and know one another.
One of the ways that we would like to do this is to have a picture of each man and woman over the age of 18 for a photo directory.

This information will not be on-line.
If you don’t want your picture taken, but still want to be in the directory, please fill out the sheet and indicate the information you would like included.
A community of connected people is a powerful witness to a watching world, as well as a blessing to take part in.
We invite you to be part of this directory.
We will be taking pictures this Sunday and next Sunday
downstairs between services & after 2nd service.

Please contact the office at
if you have questions or concerns.
