Christmas is here

Don't forget that your bin collections will change over Christmas and New Year. For details see our website or download our new Binzone app on your iPhone or Android device now.

There's no garden waste collections over the festive period so that the bin crews can concentrate on extra festive waste, but to make up for this, you'll be able to put double out in the spring during the week of 9 April.

What to do with your extra waste

You'll probably have extra waste over Christmas and most of this can be recycled. You can put out extra recycling in a cardboard box or clear sack next to your green wheelie bin. Extra food waste can be put into a thin plastic or compostable bag and left on top of your food bin. See our website for information.

Recycle your real tree

If you're a garden waste customer, leave your real Christmas tree out next to your brown bin on your normal collection day from Monday 15 January. Please don't leave out any other items, such as tree stands or decorations.

If you're not a garden waste customer, there'll be recycling drop-off points across the district. See our website for more details.

Be prepared for winter weather

If we get heavy snow or it's really icy and we can't empty your bin, please leave it out. If after three days we haven't managed to pick it up, please take it back in and we'll empty it next time it's due. Keep an eye on our website, follow us on Facebook, or Twitter @southoxon or download our new Binzone app (see below) for updates.

Search "Binzone" in the AppStore or Google Play Store and download our new app today for everything you need to know about your bins.

Local Plan update

Thanks to all of you who commented on the published version of our Local Plan. Consultation finished last week and we're now busy logging all the responses and compiling all the documents.

The Local Plan will be submitted to the government for independent examination, along with all the supporting evidence and comments, in early 2018 and public hearings will take place in South Oxfordshire. See our website for more information and look out for further details about the public examination in the new year.

New Safe Places scheme

Shops and other premises in Didcot and Wallingford have joined a new scheme to provide a safe location for vulnerable people, including those with dementia, learning disabilities or mental health issues, to go if they're feeling lost, worried or threatened.

Look out for premises displaying this Safe Place logo - they've been given approval by Thames Valley Police to join the scheme. See our website for more details.

Spot a fly-tip?

If you witness fly-tipping or see rubbish dumped where it shouldn't be, please report it online or by calling 03000 610610.

We investigate all reports of fly-tipping made to us and will take action against offenders where there is evidence.
