The following review of Assault on Saint Agnes by Joseph Courtemanche is published on The Ace of Spades Headquarters, one of the top 100 blogs in the country. They refer, lovingly, to their readers as "Morons." Morons who do not actively comment are "Lurkers:"

I got to read an advance copy of moron lurker Joe Courtemanche's debut novel Assault on Saint Agnes

When I first loaded it on my tablet, it was like 11PM and I thought I'd read a page or two to get a feel for it. Well, next thing I knew, it was 12:30AM and I was 20 chapters into it and I had to force myself to put it down, otherwise I'd have been up all night.

So yeah, it's a page-turner:

When terrorists assault Saint Agnes Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota, they expect to find a congregation of lambs: they get Bobby Kurtz instead. An unrepentant Cold Warrior, Kurtz destroys the terror cell with violent finality. Against his will, Kurtz is pulled back into the life he left behind decades before. He reluctantly picks up the burden of hunting the terrorists in our midst. He risks his life, and his marriage, in a single-minded pursuit of victory over evil.

The author is eminently qualified to write about Islamic terrorism:

Joseph Courtemanche is a former Police Officer and Middle East/North Africa analyst. He is a distinguished veteran of the Naval Security Group of the United States Navy, and an Arabic Linguist with training at the University of Minnesota and the Defense Language Institute (Honors Graduate)

The Pilgrim’s Progress

by John Bunyan

John Bunyan stuns each new generation of Christians with his insight into the spiritual journey in the faith we all must walk. Bunyan began writing this work while imprisoned for not conforming to the requirements of the state church in England. In the face of these difficulties, Bunyan still considered the trials and temptations that separate us from God and eternal life with Him to be far more important than his own ‘light and momentary sufferings.’ This illustrated edition contains the numerous drawings and engravings that have helped give Bunyan’s book its lasting power, in particular by Frederick Barnard, which were engraved by the Dalziel brothers. This edition also includes an index of Bible passages that Bunyan cited.

The Athanatos Writing Contest is an outgrowth of ACM’s desire to develop a genre of fiction that might be called ‘literary apologetics.’ Apologetics is the defense of the Christian faith. Literary apologetics would be the use of fiction and Story to communicate the Gospel and the world view associated with it. In this way, many readers might receive the Christian message and consider it whereas they might distrust it if presented propositionally.

Athanatos is an apologetics ministry, but one that encourages as many ‘methods’ as possible to defend the faith. The arts and literature are one area where the secular community used to reign supreme. However, this is changing, and Athanatos aims to facilitate that change. This writing contest is part of that strategy.

Watch the trailer for HOW GREAT IS THE DARKNESS:

Athanatos Christian Ministries has been offering apologetics courses online since 2009.

Be sure to check out our apologetics certificate and literary apologetics certificate.

Every course that ACM offers will be available throughout the year. HOWEVER, the courses will only be facilitated during three particular months--the same months every year: October, February, and May. Facilitators will still be available outside of those months, but interaction with facilitators will be much more limited.
